DESCRIPTION
Job Summary:
Assists engineers, under moderate supervision, in applying technical principles of dimensional measurement science related to test systems and processes. This role involves performing product and component testing, programming and operating Measurement and Test Equipment (M&TE), and ensuring data quality and laboratory standards are maintained.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts basic product and component testing using a variety of measurement methods, including automated procedures.
- Programs, trains, and operates Measurement and Test Equipment (M&TE).
- Assists lab managers, engineers, and customers in selecting appropriate test methods and interpreting measurement data.
- Aids customers in understanding product specifications and applying measurement data.
- Participates in inter-laboratory comparisons and measurement assurance programs.
- Supports uncertainty studies related to measurement or calibration results.
- Helps maintain the laboratory quality system by applying knowledge of quality standards (e.g., ISO 17025, ISO 9001, IATF 16949) and Cummins procedures.
- Manages procurement of necessary lab services and consumables.
- Ensures proper maintenance and calibration of M&TE within the scope of work.
- Assists with reporting data quality metrics and continuous improvement activities related to data quality and lab systems.
- Follows laboratory strategy, SIPOC process, and scorecard for operational efficiency.

Education, Licenses, and Certifications:
- High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education, or equivalent experience.
- A regionally applicable Certification (e.g., US Department of Labor) or a two-year associate's degree from an accredited college program in a relevant field of study.
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
- Some work experience and intermediate-level knowledge obtained through training or on-the-job experience.
Skills:
- Reviewing inspection requests and selecting suitable equipment for inspection.
- Programming and inspecting parts using CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine), Roundness, Contour, and Roughness Measuring Machines.
- Reporting inspection results and closing inspection requests.
- Maintenance and care of CMM, Roundness, Contour, and Roughness Measuring Machines.
- Ensuring timely calibration of measurement equipment.
- Maintaining good housekeeping standards in the laboratory.
- Conducting inspection and calibration activities at specified temperatures.
