Job Summary:

This position will be primarily based at our Laurinburg (Maxton), NC facility, with combined domestic and international travel potentially reaching up to 40% depending on the project's stage. A Mechanical Engineering education is preferred, along with five or more years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering. The ideal candidate will have experience in technical areas such as assembly technology, CNC machining, complex automation with a PL background, welding, special machines, simple to complex tooling systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, or robotics. This role requires a strong foundation in these technical areas to effectively lead and implement manufacturing processes that meet safety requirements, manufacturing goals, business goals, and product specifications.

In this role you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Lead the work for specific projects to create and implement all aspects of manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure safety requirements, manufacturing goals, business goals, and product specifications are met.
  • Apply knowledge of manufacturing principles and practices to improve manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Utilize continuous improvement tools and follow Cummins standards.
  • Lead the development of manufacturing standards and working methods.
  • Communicate with and influence key external stakeholders, business leaders, and functional members.
  • Work with internal and external resources on specific project assignments.
  • Maintain relationships and coach key stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

Drawing Interpretation: Integrates product design and manufacturing equipment engineering drawings to support the design and development of optimal manufacturing processes. Ensures that manufacturing processes meet product design specifications.

Equipment/Capital Procurement: Selects manufacturing equipment that meets Cummins manufacturing specifications and project or program needs. Evaluates and procures equipment to enhance manufacturing capabilities.

Manufacturing Analysis Led Design: Uses digital tools to model and simulate manufacturing processes, equipment, and performance. Makes data-driven decisions to drive continuous improvements and optimize manufacturing operations.

Manufacturing Knowledge: Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing principles and practices. Correctly implements changes in current processes, equipment, and applications to meet functional needs and contribute to continuous improvement.

Process Documentation: Produces detailed written manufacturing procedures in proper sequence. Ensures procedures are followed correctly by all approved stakeholders to establish continuity and standardization in processes.

Tool and Fixture Design: Selects work-piece-holding devices capable of effectively holding parts and products during manufacturing processes. Ensures devices meet functional requirements and secure the position of workpieces.

Values Differences: Recognizes and appreciates the value that different perspectives and cultures bring to the organization. Promotes an inclusive work environment that leverages diverse viewpoints.

Continuous Process Improvement: Identifies areas for process improvement and implements methodologies to reduce process costs and improve quality. Utilizes process improvement and waste reduction techniques to enhance current manufacturing processes.

Ergonomics Process and Workplace Design: Designs, creates, or adapts processes and workstations by implementing ergonomic controls. Applies Cummins ergonomic design guidelines to reduce risk and deliver ergonomically designed work environments.

Problem Solving: Solves problems using a systematic analysis process and industry-standard methodologies. Mentors others on effective problem-solving techniques, determines assignable causes, implements robust, data-based solutions, and ensures actions to prevent problem recurrence.

Workstation Design: Designs operator workstations that are safe, healthy, and ergonomic. Balances cost, quality, and delivery considerations to contribute to an efficient and effective work environment.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

Intermediate level of relevant work experience required.
