Job Summary:

Cummins Drivetrain and Braking Systems is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join a team dedicated to specifying and implementing world-class capital equipment and processes at two North American facilities. The role involves working with manufacturing processes such as Metal Forming, Machining, Welding, Assembly, and Testing, and supporting costing and launching activities across the region. Based in Fletcher, NC, this position primarily supports regional activities and requires 25-50% domestic travel to manage plant layout/improvement activities and equipment suppliers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in a heavy manufacturing environment, with a solid understanding of capital equipment specification and procurement processes. Qualifications include 3-6+ years of relevant experience, expertise in creating and optimizing plant layouts, and a hands-on approach with a desire to learn new processes. A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred, though experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.

In this role you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Lead the development and implementation of manufacturing processes to meet safety, manufacturing, and business goals.
  • Apply manufacturing principles and practices to improve equipment and processes.
  • Utilize continuous improvement tools to impact work and follow Cummins standards.
  • Develop and lead manufacturing standards and working methods.
  • Communicate with and influence key external stakeholders, business leaders, and functional members.
  • Collaborate with internal and external resources on specific project assignments.
  • Maintain relationships and coach key stakeholders on manufacturing principles and practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drawing Interpretation: Integrates product design and manufacturing equipment engineering drawings to support the design and development of an optimal manufacturing process that meets product design specifications.
  • Equipment/Capital Procurement: Selects manufacturing equipment that meets Cummins manufacturing specifications and project or program needs.
  • Manufacturing Analysis Led Design: Uses digital tools to model and simulate manufacturing processes, equipment, and performance to make data-driven decisions and drive continuous improvements.
  • Manufacturing Knowledge: Demonstrates knowledge of manufacturing by correctly implementing changes in current processes, equipment, and applications to meet functional needs and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Process Documentation: Produces written manufacturing procedures in proper sequence, ensuring they are followed correctly by all approved stakeholders to establish continuity and standardization in processes.
  • Tool and Fixture Design: Selects work-piece-holding devices capable of effectively holding parts and products during manufacturing processes to secure their position and meet functional requirements.
  • Values Differences: Recognizes the value that different perspectives and cultures bring to an organization.
  • Continuous Process Improvement: Identifies areas for process improvement and implements methodologies to reduce process costs and improve quality in current manufacturing processes.
  • Ergonomics Process and Workplace Design: Designs, creates, or adapts processes and workstations by implementing ergonomic controls through Cummins ergonomic design guidelines to reduce risk and deliver ergonomically designed work.
  • Problem Solving: Solves problems and mentors others on effective problem-solving using systematic analysis processes and industry-standard methodologies to create problem traceability, determine assignable causes, implement robust, data-based solutions, and ensure actions to prevent problem recurrence.
  • Workstation Design: Designs operator workstations that are safe, healthy, and ergonomic while accounting for cost, quality, and delivery to contribute to an efficient work environment. Education, Licenses, Certifications: College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required. This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations. Experience: Intermediate level of relevant work experience required.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position will be based in Fletcher, NC, will primarily support regional activities, and will require ~25-50% domestic travel to support plant layout/improvement activities and manage equipment suppliers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in a heavy manufacturing environment and a solid understanding of capital equipment specification and procurement processes.
  2. Qualifications
  • 3-6+ years' experience in a relevant field.
  • Experience creating and optimizing plant layouts for various manufacturing scenarios.
  • Team player who can work with all cross functional groups to meet top level company goals.
  • Hands-on approach with a desire to learn new processes.
  • Experience working with capital equipment and managing capital equipment suppliers is desired (Assembly equipment, material handling equipment, etc.)
  1. Education
  • Bachelors Level Degree in a relevant field (preferably industrial, manufacturing engineering or engineering technology). Experience in lieu of degree considered.
