Job Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineer, holding a Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering, will play a crucial role in supporting specific projects from conception to completion. This position involves creating and validating work instructions, developing tooling and fixtures to enhance productivity, and addressing safety concerns. The assistant will also be responsible for purchasing necessary tooling and fixtures. By applying knowledge of manufacturing principles and practices, the Manufacturing Process Assistant will work to improve equipment and processes, develop manufacturing standards, and utilize continuous improvement tools. This role ensures that safety requirements, manufacturing goals, business goals, and product specifications are consistently met, contributing to the overall efficiency and success of the manufacturing operations..

In this role you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Assist with the work for specific projects to create and implement all aspects of manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure safety requirements, manufacturing goals, business goals, and product specifications are met.
  • Apply knowledge of manufacturing principles and practices to improve manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Assist with the development of manufacturing standards and working methods using continuous improvement tools.
  • Collaborate with internal and external resources on specific project assignments.
  • Learn and apply manufacturing principles and practices as they are applied to Cummins.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Drawing Interpretation:

  • Integrates product design and manufacturing equipment engineering drawings to support the design and development of optimal manufacturing processes that meet product design specifications.

Equipment/Capital Procurement:

  • Selects manufacturing equipment that meets Cummins' specifications and fulfills project or program needs.

Manufacturing Analysis Led Design:

  • Utilizes digital tools to model and simulate manufacturing processes, equipment, and performance, enabling data-driven decisions and continuous improvements.

Manufacturing Knowledge:

  • Demonstrates expertise in manufacturing by effectively implementing changes in processes, equipment, and applications to meet functional needs and drive continuous improvement.

Process Documentation:

  • Produces written manufacturing procedures in proper sequence, ensuring they are correctly followed by all approved stakeholders to establish process continuity and standardization.

Tool and Fixture Design:

  • Selects work-piece-holding devices that effectively secure parts and products during manufacturing processes to meet functional requirements.

Continuous Process Improvement:

  • Identifies areas for process improvement and implements methodologies to reduce costs and enhance quality in current manufacturing processes.

Ergonomics Process and Workplace Design:

  • Designs, creates, or adapts processes and workstations by applying Cummins' ergonomic design guidelines to reduce risk and deliver ergonomically optimized work environments.

Problem Solving:

  • Solves problems and mentors others in effective problem-solving techniques using systematic analysis processes and industry-standard methodologies to ensure traceability, determine assignable causes, implement robust solutions, and prevent recurrence.

Workstation Design:

  • Designs operator workstations that are safe, healthy, and ergonomic, while considering cost, quality, and delivery to contribute to an efficient work environment. Education, Licenses, Certifications: College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required. This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations. Experience: Basic level of relevant work experience required.
