DESCRIPTION

Contributes to the planning, designing, purchasing, and implementation of changes to the manufacturing equipment and systems while supporting cross-functional teams. The role involves applying manufacturing principles to improve processes, ensure safety, achieve manufacturing goals, and meet product specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists with specific projects to create and implement manufacturing processes, ensuring alignment with safety requirements, manufacturing objectives, and product specifications.
  • Applies knowledge of manufacturing principles and practices to enhance equipment and processes.
  • Contributes to the development of manufacturing standards and continuous improvement tools.
  • Collaborates with internal and external resources on assigned project tasks.
  • Learns and applies manufacturing principles and practices as they pertain to Cummins' systems.

Experience:

  • Basic level of relevant work experience required.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Experience with cylinder block, cylinder head, and connecting rod machining processes.
  • Familiarity with various machine tools and manufacturing equipment.
  • Proficiency in CNC programming languages.
  • Experience with machine tool controllers such as FANUC and Siemens.
  • Selection, design, and application of cutting tools and fixtures for optimized machining.
  • Capability to analyze machining processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
  • Experience with process planning and cycle time reduction.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Project management skills to ensure timelines, budgets, and deliverables are met.
  • Good communication skills for reporting, documentation, and collaboration with stakeholders.

  • Tool and Fixture Design: Develops workpiece-holding devices for effective part positioning during manufacturing.
  • Values Differences: Recognizes and leverages diverse perspectives and cultures.
  • Continuous Process Improvement: Implements methodologies to reduce costs and improve quality.
  • Ergonomics Process and Workplace Design: Designs ergonomic processes and workstations following Cummins guidelines.
  • Problem Solving: Uses systematic analysis and industry methodologies to resolve issues effectively.
  • Workstation Design: Designs safe, ergonomic workstations considering cost, quality, and delivery.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Licenses, and Certifications:

  • College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or a related field, or equivalent experience required.
