DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Engineering Specialist, Software Controls to join our team specializing in engineering for our corporate office in Troy, MI.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Problem Resolution: You'll investigate software issues, understand their root causes, recommend actions, and document solutions, ensuring smooth and efficient problem resolution.
- Process Improvement: By applying and enhancing software development processes and tools, you'll contribute to more efficient coding, compiling, and testing practices.
- Collaboration and Negotiation: You'll obtain input and negotiate with product and software development teams, delivering verified software features and builds, ensuring alignment and quality.
- Decision-Making : Using your systems knowledge, you'll make critical decisions regarding software requirements, architecture, design, and testing, impacting the quality and performance of software builds and product lines.
- Mentorship and Review: You'll review the work of less-experienced developers and testers, ensuring robust, reusable, and efficient designs, and providing valuable mentorship.
- Leadership: You'll lead smaller projects or complex components with full accountability, driving independent execution of work processes and systems.
- Process and System Development : You'll lead the development and improvement of work processes and systems across functions within a global business unit, enhancing overall efficiency and effectiveness.
- Knowledge Transfer: By coordinating and directing work among technicians and temporary employees, and assisting in knowledge transfer to less experienced engineers, you'll foster a collaborative and knowledgeable team environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following :
- Technical Proficiency : Strong skills in product failure mode avoidance, function modeling, simulation, and analysis to predict and mitigate potential product issues, ensuring reliability and performance.
- Effective Communication and Collaboration : The ability to build networks, communicate effectively with diverse teams, and negotiate product requirements to guide project scope and deliver quality software features.
- Strategic Thinking and Decision-Making : Expertise in product platform planning, architecting, and systems thinking to create holistic product platforms, make informed design decisions, and manage complexity.
- Leadership and Mentorship : Providing guidance and support to less-experienced developers, leading projects, and fostering a collaborative environment to drive results and continuous improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
- College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
- Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
- Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making.
- Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred
Additional Details:
- Develop and design control systems for electronic braking system and other mechatronics, electro-pneumatic and electrical smart systems, considering the integration of mechanical, electrical, electronic, and pneumatic components.
- Collaborate with cross-functional electronics, mechatronics, and mechanical and functional safety teams to specify system requirements and functionality.
- Write custom control logic and algorithms to achieve precise control and performance optimization.
- Utilize simulation tools to create mathematical models of product systems, allowing real-time simulations to test and validate control strategies, tuning parameters, and safety measures, refining algorithms as needed.
- Ensure software and systems comply with safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262)
- Perform risk assessments and implement safety protocols.
- Conduct MIL (model in the loop), SIL (Software in the loop) and support HIL (hardware in the loop) testing and vehicle level validation of control systems to ensure they meet performance and quality standards.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues in electro-mechanical and electro-pneumatic systems.
- Develop maintenance procedures and schedules to ensure system reliability.
- Create detailed technical documentation, including system schematics, wiring diagrams, and user manuals.
Required Experience
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in designing and programming control systems for mechatronics, electro-pneumatic, or electrical systems, motors, and linear actuators, with a strong foundation in writing custom control logic and algorithms.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in designing and development of Braking controls software (EBS, ABS, ASR/TCS/DTC, ESC/ESP)
- Experience in use of model-based design software (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink).
- Experience in programming using C, C++, and Python.
- Proficient in vehicle dynamics plant modeling (SimScape, TruckSim, TruckMaker)
- Prior experience in rapid prototype software development from concept to validation (requirements, design, testing)
- Prior experience in production software development (SYS-SW development lifecycle)
- Knowledge of electronics and electro-pneumatic components, and product development processes.
- Familiarity with safety standards and regulations relevant to the product industry.
- Exceptional problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
