DESCRIPTION
This applied technology position creates and integrates electrical and electronic hardware that is essential to Cummins products. Individuals in this role will develop and validate electronic sensors, actuators, control units, harnesses, wiring practices, or control systems and associated analog and digital signals to ensure the consistent operation of Cummins' products in various customer applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigates electronic hardware problems, understands causal mechanisms, recommends appropriate action, owns problem resolution, and documents results.
- Applies and improves electronic hardware development processes and tools, including problem-solving techniques, hardware development process familiarity, and requirements analysis.
- Applies knowledge of design methods such as worst-case analysis, circuit simulation, DFMEA/PFMEA, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), schematic capture, and Specification Compliance Matrix (or equivalent).
- Obtains input and collaborates with electronic suppliers to deliver prototype hardware to application engineering teams.
- Makes decisions regarding hardware requirements, design, and validation tests that impact unit cost, functionality, and prototype delivery.
- Reviews work from less-experienced developers/testers to ensure robust, reusable, and efficient design.
- Leads smaller business impact projects or owns complex components, products, systems, or services with accountability to the project team.
- Executes and improves established and emerging work processes and systems while continuing to develop technology or product knowledge.
- Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across a functional discipline area within a business unit site.
- Coordinates and directs work among technicians and temporary student employees and assists in knowledge transfer to less-experienced engineers.
- Provides support and guidance to influence technical direction within a project team and develops proficiency in critical competency areas.
- Operates as a recognized specialist in a discipline or product area within the immediate team.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Knowledge & Skills:
- Electrical Engineering background with experience in handling the integration of subsystems for each car based on layout and weight balancing.
- Strong understanding of industry standards and safety regulations.
- Ability to perform calculations for designing specific cable requirements.
- Knowledge of EMI & EMC compliance and mitigation strategies.
- Experience in preparing schemes for Power/Control/Communication cables and layouts.
- Proficiency in propulsion system integration with prior work experience in Vande Bharat, Train 18, or EMUs/MEMUs.
- Ability to collect Interface Control Documents (ICDs) from subsystem suppliers and map cables per EN standards.
- Expertise in preparing cable lists and developing layouts for cable and interior harnessing, including underframe designs.
- Capability to review train-level schematics and electrical interfaces, ensuring all necessary calculations are completed.
- Ability to prepare customer submission deliverables for electrical design scope.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an appropriate STEM field is required.
- A Master's degree relevant to this discipline may be required for select roles.
Experience in Rail Electrification:
- Prepare list of cables with respect to the scheme for Rail.
- Collect ICDs from Sub System suppliers and do the mapping of cables required as per EN standards
- Prepare necessary customer submission deliverables for Electrical Design Scope
- Review train level schematics and electrical interfaces ensuring all calculations done.
- Cable concept for each car to be prepared with sizes and dimensions
- Developing layouts for cable and interior harnessing including underframe.
- Knowledge on standards and safeties is must and calculations are required to done for designing the specific cable requirements.
- Preparing Schemes for Power/Control/Communication cables and layout with knowledge on EMI & EMC is required.
- Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline is required.
- Demonstrated track record of technical problem-solving and quality decision-making.
- Proficiency in MS Office tools is preferred.
