DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Electronic Systems Technical Specialist - Hardware to join our team specializing in engineering for our Cummins' business in Columbus, IN.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Problem Resolution: By investigating electronic hardware issues, understanding their root causes, and recommending appropriate actions, you'll ensure efficient problem resolution and documentation.
  • Process Improvement: You'll enhance electronic hardware development processes and tools, applying basic problem-solving techniques and requirements analysis to drive continuous improvement.
  • Design Expertise: Utilizing design methods like worst-case analysis, circuit simulation, DFMEA/PFMEA, and Fault Tree Analysis, you'll ensure robust and compliant hardware designs.
  • Collaboration: By obtaining input from electronic suppliers and delivering prototype hardware to application engineering teams, you'll facilitate effective collaboration and integration.
  • Decision Making: Your decisions on hardware requirements, design, and validation tests will directly impact unit cost, functionality, and prototype delivery, ensuring optimal outcomes.
  • Mentorship: Reviewing the work of less-experienced developers and testers, you'll ensure robust, reusable, and efficient designs while fostering their growth and development.
  • Leadership: Leading smaller projects or complex components with full accountability, you'll drive successful project execution and navigate ambiguity effectively.
  • Knowledge Transfer: Coordinating work among technicians and student employees, you'll assist in transferring knowledge and guiding technical direction within the project team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge in the design and application of mechatronics systems, electrical and mechanical design of electrical systems, and product failure mode avoidance to ensure robust and reliable hardware solutions.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to solve product problems effectively by identifying root causes, implementing data-based solutions, and preventing reoccurrence, ensuring customer satisfaction and product reliability.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills to convey complex technical information clearly and build strong networks within and outside the organization, facilitating effective collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Decision-Making and Resourcefulness: Making timely and quality decisions, managing complexity, and deploying resources efficiently to drive results and meet project goals, even under challenging circumstances.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

  • College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required. Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
  • Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making. Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred

Additional Details:

The candidate shall have demonstrated experience designing printed circuit boards for electrical distribution systems including low voltage and high voltage circuits. Knowledge of typical BEV systems solutions and technologies. Understanding about all types of battery electrical components and functions specific to the electrical distribution system (EDS). The candidate shall have proficiency with Altium software, experience releasing parts in Windchill, and experience conducting cross-functional design reviews. The ideal candidate should have experience with schematic design using Creo Schematics as well as 3D modeling experience using Creo Parametric. Additionally, the candidate will be open minded, have an innovative spirit, self-motivated, able to solve complex technical problems, while being able to balance cost and technology readiness.

Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. The final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidate's qualifications and experience, where appropriate.
