DESCRIPTION
Lead the specification, design, implementation, testing and release of software that controls the operation of Cummins' products in a variety of user applications. Investigate highly specialized embedded software problems, understand causal mechanisms, recommend appropriate action, own problem resolution, and document results. Create, manage, improve, and apply embedded software development processes and tools including model-based development, coding, compiling and test, Simulink, code editors, compilers and hardware in the loop test tools. Obtain input and negotiate with product and software development teams and deliver verified software features, components, and builds to product teams. Utilized specialized systems knowledge and expertise to make key business decisions in the areas of software requirements, architecture, design, and tests that impact the quality and performance of software builds, product lines (platforms), and management of cross-business unit integration and coordination. Utilize robust software engineering principles and industry best practices to verify software updates to ensure quality products as part of Embedded Software Design and Construction. Coordinate the development of design verification and system validation plans to identify failure modes while managing risk and relative priority. Evaluate analytical and experimental test results following computer and software engineering principles to verify that products meet internal technical requirements and to validate that design solutions meet user needs. Produce recommendations with technical documentation to support product software decisions. Utilize Systems Requirements Engineering methods and tools to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements to which designs are developed. Establish acceptance criteria for the system of interest through analysis, allocation and negotiation, and track the status of requirements throughout the system lifecycle. Assess the impact of changes to system requirements on project scope, schedule, and resources, and create and maintain information linkages to related artifacts.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Positions require a Master's degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 3 years of experience as a Software, Systems, or Electronics Engineer or Specialist, or related position. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 6 years of experience as a Software, Systems, or Electronics Engineer or Specialist, or related position. Experience to include: Design, implement, test and release software; Embedded software development processes and tools including model-based development, Simulink; Software requirements, architecture, design, and tests; Embedded Software Design and Construction; Design verification and system validation to identify failure modes; Verify that products meet internal technical requirements; Validate that design solutions meet user needs; Systems Requirements Engineering methods and tools; Establish and track requirements throughout the system lifecycle.
