We are looking for a talented Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Culture (DEIC) Executive Director to join our HR team. This role will be based out of our Corporate Headquarters in Columbus, IN or our Distribution Headquarters in Indianapolis, IN. Global location flexibility is available, and some travel is expected.

The DEIC Executive Director will lead Cummins global DEIC Collaboration team working closely with HR and executive management leaderships teams to elevate and execute a progressive DEIC agenda that drives positive culture change and business results.

Reporting to the Vice President of DEIC, the successful candidate will be a business-savvy leader and culture champion with strong understanding DEIC, HR, and organizational transformation best practices in globally dispersed organizations of comparable scale and complexity.

They will have expertise in consulting on DEI strategy, coaching HRBPs and business leaders on the development and implementation of effective DEI strategies to support advancing DEI goals to achieve business results and developing comprehensive DEI focused talent management strategies, particularly for front-line and mid-level employees. This role is strategically significant for Cummins, with potential as a successor to Vice President of DEIC.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Development and implementation of the diversity, equity, inclusion, and culture strategic plan in collaboration with HRBP's and the organization's leaders.
  • Coach and mentor a global team of direct reports.
  • Serve as a strategic consultant to the organization, representing the diversity, equity, inclusion and culture perspective of the community and workforce.
  • Cross-functional consulting with Total Rewards, Talent Development and Talent Acquisition on the design and delivery of strategies and initiatives to embed DEIC into policies, processes, and programs to foster a diverse, equitable and inclusive workforce.
  • Monitor organizational culture and advance strategies that demonstrate a commitment to a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Partner with HRBP's & Talent Management leaders to develop recruitment, selection, and retention strategies that foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workforce.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and Talent Management to assess the climate and develop action plans to address concerns.
  • Consult on the development of DEIC learning and development strategies and educational resources that increase cultural competencies.
  • Represents Cummins in the business community on diversity issues; maintains strong relationships with external diversity communities.
  • Collaborate with Right Environment and Ethics & Compliance on compliance strategies that build DEI proficiency within the Right Environment and Compliance teams to mitigate risk for bias in investigation assessments and disparate outcomes in disciplinary actions.
  • Foster a culture of inclusion through engagement with employee resource groups, mentorship and allyship programs.
  • Collaborate on development of DEIC Culture, Listening & Measurement and Reporting Strategies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external organizations, community groups, and industry partners to advance the company's DEIC goals. Manage DEIC vendor engagements and relationships.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Organizational Development & Effectiveness Consultation: Expertise in assessing organizational performance strengths and gaps by conducting comprehensive assessments, interpreting data, diagnosing root cause, and engaging leaders to improve employee engagement and organizational effectiveness.
  • Team Effectiveness Facilitation : Guides team to increased effectiveness through observation, facilitation and application of structured tools resulting in increased capability to deliver desired business outcomes.
  • Cultural Agility: Leverages multiple cultural frameworks, values, and norms; Adapts style to be effective across cultures; Recognizes and addresses one's privileges, biases, and cultural preferences; Commits to continuous learning and improvement in diversity, inclusion, and cultural competence; Seeks and utilizes feedback from diverse sources.
  • Data Analytics : Discovers, interprets, and communicates qualitative and quantitative data; determines conclusions relying on knowledge of business or functional frameworks; simultaneously applies statistics, data validity, data visualization, and problem-solving approaches to effectively extract meaningful patterns and business insights; presents conclusions and outcomes that enable data driven business decisions.
  • Consulting: Collaborates with HR & business partners to observe the environment and apply sound judgement informed by knowledge, skills, and experiences to identify and optimize opportunities to provide holistic solutions, while balancing the needs of stakeholders, primarily employees, with those of the organization.
  • Communicates Effectively : Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.

Education/Experience

  • College, university, or equivalent degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field or equivalent experience required.
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Certification preferred.
  • Budgetary experience required.
  • Significant progressive responsible leadership experience in Diversity Management, Human Resource Management, Human Resource Development, Organization Development, Industrial and Organizational Psychology or related fields.
  • Successful track record of developing and implementing global strategies and programs in a complex diverse global organization.
  • Proven experience implementing effective DEIC strategies particularly for front-line and mid-level employees.
  • Location flexibility: preference for Indiana (relocation available), with the possibility to be globally based outside the U.S. (e.g., Europe, Brazil, Mexico, or South Africa - ineligible for global mobility).
