DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Diesel Technician/Mechanic to join our Distribution business in Kearny, NJ.
You will make an impact in the following ways:
- Complete repairs on engine products in a service shop
- Perform maintenance/repairs utilizing diagnostic tools
- Maintain detailed records of serviced vehicles
- Adhere to Cummins Health, Safety & Environmental policies
- Ongoing development/certifications on new and existing Cummins products
- Maintain own tools
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Completes complex internal engine repairs
- Performs engine overhauls unassisted
- Detailed understanding of the aftertreatment system and components
- Proficient experience with engine diagnostic software Education, Licenses, Certifications: Apprentice Trained Engine Technician (Preferred) Vocational diploma from relevant technical institution Locally valid driving permit (Preferred) This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations. Experience: Intermediate level knowledge of and/or experience with engine products

QUALIFICATIONS
-Perform minor to complex repairs in a timely and safe manner across different engine platforms installed in various vehicles and equipment across market segments.
-Accurately navigate Cummins Electronic Service Tools and published troubleshooting manuals to determine root cause failure of customer complaints. Engage technical support hotlines, Technical Service Managers, and Field Service Engineers to perform advanced troubleshooting once published materials are exhausted.
-Ensure repairs are completed according to published service and troubleshooting manuals to deliver a high-quality repair to the customer, fixed right the first time.
-Produce, keep, and maintain detailed service records including but not limited to: engine control module images, data-logs, service documentation, and notes.
-Work in a dynamic, fast paced, and ever evolving Union shop environment reporting to shop Foreman or Supervisor/ Manager.
-Participate in all aspects of both the site and larger Cummins goal trees for each calendar year.
-Actively participate in building an interdependent safety culture.
-Complete all assigned training both in-person and virtual.
-Significant relevant knowledge of Cummins engine and diagnostic software suite will be required for this role.
-Cummins Technician Apprentice Program graduates, Diesel Technician Journeyman, or reputable technical school graduates preferred.
-This role will be for the night shift starting at 3:30PM and ending at 12:00AM.
- This position is subject to Federal Transit Administration random and pre-employment drug testing requirements. This roll will be subject to on-going random drug and alcohol testing.
- A current valid license is required for this role
- Must be 18 years old with 2 years driving experience
- This role requires a 5 year motor vehicle report, free from major violations
- A CDL may be required to obtain upon hire
- Federal law requires a CDL holder to be 21 years of age or older
