DESCRIPTION
In this position you will utilize the core competencies of chemical systems to:
- Design and conduct experiments for understanding performance and aging of chemical systems.
- Diagnose degradation mechanisms of chemical systems.
- Employ and develop simulation models to answer key questions about the performance of a system or component •
- Make day to day decisions for conducting analysis and testing.
Use tools related to chemical sciences such as:
- Flow reactors.
- Analytical tools such as XRD, DRIFTs, TGA, BET, SEM/EDS, potentiostat, battery calorimeter, etc.
- AVL BOOST
- MATLAB (with In-House developed plugins)
- Own problem resolution for moderately complex components or lower complexity product systems and sub-systems. •
- Collaborate with key stakeholders and colleagues, using analysis results to impact and support the successful advancement of projects

RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need:
- A College, University or equivalent PhD in Engineering or appropriate STEM field.
- A postgraduate (Master's or PhD) degree may be required for select Chemical Engineering roles.
- Effective communication skills along with strengths in logic and planning
- Experience using Microsoft Office tools or equivalents, especially Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint - Prior hands-on product experience is preferred, but not required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Degree Programs Considered: PhD
Major Programs Typically Considered: Chemical Engineering preferred, but open to Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with relevant doctoral research work
2024 Salary Ranges by Degree Level:
PhD - $84,800 - $127,200
Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. The final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidate's qualifications and experience, where appropriate.
Cummins Full Time Requirements:
College, University, or equivalent technical experience required.
Minimum 2.5 or above GPA required.
Must be able to complete 40 hours per week.
2 years in a position/internship relating to your field of study preferred.
