Job Summary:
This product focused position tailors electronic and electrical systems for Cummins products. People in these positions will translate product requirements into hardware and software technical requirements that control the operation of Cummins' products in a variety of customer applications. Additionally, there is responsibility to configure (tune), and complete comprehensive validation testing of the fully integrated hardware and software systems.

- Mechatronics Systems Design : You'll be responsible for specifying and applying electronic hardware and interconnections to measure and control systems in Cummins' products. This involves ensuring that the electronic components work seamlessly with the mechanical and hydraulic systems.
- Machine Integration and Optimization : You'll combine various parts or sub-systems into a cohesive whole to achieve the desired output for the customer. This includes applying Cummins' installation requirements and best practices to optimize performance, reliability, cost, and quality. You'll also analyze technical issues using proven problem-solving techniques for rapid resolution.
- Product Function Modeling and Analysis : You'll utilize computational tools and methods to predict and influence product design decisions. This involves modeling, simulating, and analyzing product functions at the system, sub-system, and component levels to ensure they meet requirements.
- Product Problem Solving : You'll solve product problems by identifying the root cause, implementing robust, data-based solutions, and preventing recurrence. This process protects the customer and ensures long-term product reliability.
- Product Verification and Validation : You'll develop validation plans to identify failure modes and manage product risk. This includes negotiating product requirements, evaluating test results, and assessing system capabilities to support product decisions with technical documentation.
- System Requirements Engineering : You'll translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements, establish acceptance criteria, and track the status of requirements throughout the system lifecycle. You'll also assess the impact of changes on project scope, schedule, and resources.
- Systems Thinking : You'll define the system of interest, identify its context and interfaces, and analyze interactions between elements. This helps in understanding the system, predicting its behavior, and making modifications to achieve desired outcomes.
- Network Building and Effective Communication : You'll build formal and informal relationships inside and outside the organization. Additionally, you'll develop and deliver communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences, ensuring effective information exchange.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role, you will need the following:
- Problem Investigation and Resolution: Investigate electronic application and systems problems, understand causal mechanisms, recommend actions, and document results with guidance from experienced team members.
- Process Improvement: Apply and enhance electronic application and systems development processes and tools, including system specification, modeling, simulation, calibration, DVP&R, and troubleshooting.
- Tool Application: Utilize tools for simulation, calibration, and product life maintenance to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Gather input from customers, technical and product teams, manufacturing engineers, suppliers, and other stakeholders to make informed product decisions.
- Design and Testing Decisions: Make decisions regarding electronic and electrical system design, requirements, calibration, and testing to ensure quality and performance of subsystems.
- Mentorship and Review: Review the work of less-experienced developers/testers to ensure robust, reusable, and efficient designs, and provide mentorship.
- Project Leadership: Lead smaller projects or own complex components, products, systems, or services with greater ambiguity, ensuring accountability to the project team.
- Work Process Development: Lead the development and improvement of work processes and systems within a functional discipline, coordinating work among technicians and temporary employees, and transferring knowledge to less experienced engineers.
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making. Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred
QUALIFICATIONS
- Senior or Lead Engineer Experience: Demonstrated prior experience as a Senior or Lead Engineer in a relevant discipline area, showcasing strong technical problem-solving abilities and quality decision-making skills.
- Aftertreatment Control and Diagnostics: Experience in engine and/or aftertreatment diagnostics and controls would be a strong nice to have skillset.
- Calibration Tuning Processes: Ability to develop aftertreatment diagnostic calibration tuning processes and establish best practices to ensure optimal performance.
- Simulation-Based Tools Proficiency: Competence in applying simulation-based tools such as CROSS, ACCEPTS, and PureSim for calibrating and verifying aftertreatment diagnostics.
- Product Support and Maintenance: Experience in supporting and maintaining current product aftertreatment control and diagnostic calibration settings across PSBU emissionized products, including addressing field issues and test cell support.
Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time to customer sites for field support and interaction.
Diesel Engine Engineering Background: Intermediate experience in engineering roles involving diesel engines or diesel engine control systems.
Preferred Additional Experience: Familiarity with integrating diesel aftertreatment systems with diesel engines, conducting bench testing of diesel engine and/or aftertreatment controls, calibrating engine and/or aftertreatment settings, and developing performance and emissions strategies related to diesel aftertreatment systems.
"This role is a hybrid role with expectation to come on site 40% of time with flexibility depending on projects and team engagement. Some travel to support testing and customers could be expected but should not exceed 10% of time."
Compensation and Benefits
Base Salary: 84,800.00 - 127,200.00 USD ANNUAL
