DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Accounting Manager to join our team specializing in Finance for our SA Finance Department in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa.
This role leads a team of accountants that manages all corporate financial and statutory accounting aspects related to Cummins South Africa. In addition the role takes full controller responsibility for all matters relating to Cummins Africa Middle East, Cummins X-Border and the CEES Trust.
The Accounting Manager would need to effectively leverage expertise and resources across a highly matrixed organization. Individual must be able to work across both dotted and solid line reporting structures on a daily basis to ensure accounting and finance needs of the entity are met.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways :
- The Accounting Manager will be responsible for excellence within the following 5 "foundational" areas:
- This role will form part of the regional finance team across Southern Africa and they will be expected to:
- Smooth & effective month-end closing processes.
- Maintain a "clean" Balance Sheet; free of aged items, quick resolution of reconciling items, and robust monthly reconciliations aligned with global corporate standards.
- Ensure a strong control environment and timely regulatory filings (stat audits, tax).
- Lead a team of accountants in a manner aligned with Cummins' Leadership Behaviours. Ensures strong understanding of process expectations within the team. Builds a highly motivated team. Team is appropriately staffed. Attrition and backfilling is proactively managed.
- Strong communication across the organization and function. Robust discussions taking place on both opportunities and risks within the entity.
- Timely Financial Reporting: Ensure the timely recording, analyzing, and reporting of accounting transactions, including reviewing general ledger entries and account reconciliations.
- Support the region with deep functional expertise in a specific complex areas (Eg. IFRS 2 provisions, cash management, hedging, ABO Billbacks etc.)
- Supporting rolling out frameworks and best practices across the region
- Support business continuity across all entities
- Support regional projects
- Develop scalable tools and templates in these areas and help us roll them out across the AME region
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Strong Business Partnering Skills: Collaborate with stakeholders to drive performance aligned with organizational goals, influence decision-making, and evaluate the business environment to mitigate risks and capitalize on opportunities.
- Expertise in Financial Analysis: Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, opportunities, and risks, providing insights to stakeholders to drive business improvement and ensure data integrity.
- Knowledge of US GAAP: Understand and apply US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies, and effectively communicate implications to stakeholders with varying financial knowledge.
- Proficiency in Financial Reporting: Prepare and present financial information, summarize data to communicate results, and partner with stakeholders to drive financial performance in line with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/ Experience:
- College, university, or equivalent degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required.
- Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, Chartered Accountant or similar certification required.
- Significant experience required, including supervisory experience.
