The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director Tax, Americas, you manage income tax matters and implementation of Tax strategy for the North American region across CSL Behring, CSL Plasma, CSL Seqirus and CSL Vifor. This includes tax compliance, tax advisory, risk management and tax governance and controls. You will develop important partnerships across the organization to provide tax support and advice in respect of business changes while ensuring relevant legislative changes are overseen. You will also ensure that the regional tax accounting requirements are managed for stat close and budget/forecast processes, support business projects and Global Tax initiatives while identifying opportunities for process improvements, improved controls, and enhanced automation.

The Role
  • Manage US federal, state and local tax compliance for all CSL companies doing business in the US, including preparation of consolidated returns. This will include income and franchise taxes and includes ensuring that any co-source/out-sourcing relationships are appropriately managed.
  • Responsible for all U.S. international tax compliance and provision requirements including the computations of earnings and profits, GILTI, FDII, BEAT, FTC's, Forms 5471, 5472, 1118, 1042 and others.
  • Responsible for all R&D/Orphan Drug Tax Credit estimates for financial close, forecast and budget. Also manage outsourcing engagement of R&D/Orphan Drug Tax Credit and process for calculating tax credit to support financial close activities.
  • Manage US income tax audits with tax authorities and interfaces with auditors to provide appropriate documentation and support in discussions, case(s) and dispute resolution. Defend CSL Tax positions as needed.
  • Ensure tax accounting requirements for the region are complied with/outcomes reviewed for financial close, forecast and budget preparation, including tax payments for cash planning, and meeting all finance timetables
  • Lead and develop members of the US tax team to increase skill set, create strong succession planning, and to ensure career growth and continuous learning. Manage performance with a focus on accountability, the meeting of objectives, and role modeling of CSL Values.
  • Perform research on tax issues, tax law updates and tax planning initiatives. Work to develop favorable tax positions and model economic consequences of proposed tax planning ideas. Develop tax strategies related to tax compliance and identify and mitigate all risks in these areas.
  • Oversight of the tax compliance obligations for the North American region, including ensuring compliance with timelines, oversight of outsource arrangements, liaising with local finance teams and review of regional income tax returns.
  • Engage with local function leaders to understand business and ensure tax compliance for business changes. Ensure tax requirements are understood and complied with across the region.
  • Provide strategic insights into the tax landscape in North America and thought leadership on the tax strategy. Ensure the global tax strategy is implemented in the region. Participate in special projects related to tax compliance and planning as needed.

Your skills and experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or other related major is required. CPA or a Graduate degree in Taxation is recommended.
  • 7+ years of corporate tax or large accounting firm experience is required.
  • Proficiency in using OneSource corporate tax software, Alteryx and Power BI preferred.
  • Specialized knowledge in US federal tax rules required.
  • Record of strong interpersonal, analytical skills and people management.
