Summary:
The Safety Manager contributes to the administration of the company's safety program, which aims to protect people, property, and reputation. This role promotes a positive safety and health image within the community. The Safety Manager consults with the Regional Director or Corporate Vice President of Health and Safety for clarification on organizational policies or government regulations when necessary. This position provides support to the region.
What you'll be contributing:
- Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
- Assists regional locations in compliance with health and safety procedures, programs, and processes.
- Performs audits to confirm adherence to company procedures, programs, and processes, as well as state and federal regulations.
- Helps investigate incidents and prepare incident reports and safety alerts in a manner that supports a Human Performance Culture
- Conducts field safety audits and walk-through inspections to ensure that all employees are working in a safe manner.
- Conducts meaningful safety interactions to advance the health and safety knowledge of all employees.
- Collaborates, formulates, and suggests work safety standards and procedures related to risk prevention.
- Collaborates with site teams to advise on safety deficiencies and non-compliance, short-term and long-term.
- Acts as a Health & Safety department resource/mentor for all company employees.
- Supports site Leadership in review and continuous improvement of the site Crisis Management Plan.
- Performs safety training and audit inspections further to advance the health and safety program across the platform.
- Works with site personnel to develop plant safety procedures for their work areas and assists in ensuring that they are consistently followed.
- Makes recommendations for the purchase of safety equipment.
- Facilitates industrial hygiene testing, including noise and dust surveys, and retention of data in the company database.
- Investigates occupational injuries, illnesses, equipment, and property damage in cooperation with the workers' compensation insurance carrier. When needed, conduct root-cause incident investigations using Human Performance and other methodologies.
- Life-Saving Rules - know, understand, and ensure adherence by employees, contractors, vendors, and visitors to the Life-Saving Rules.
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
To succeed in this position, you will need:
- Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
- Minimum 4 Year - Bachelor's Degree in Industrial hygiene, safety management, or related field
- Certified to instruct First Aid / CPR courses, or willingness to attain certification preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in the safety and health field in cement, heavy industry, construction, mining, or related industries.
- Knowledge and skills equivalent to that gained through a minimum of three (3) years' health and safety role preferred.
- Knowledge in any of the following: MSHA/OSHA/MOL-Canada, State, and/or ATF regulations is preferred.
- Demonstrative ability to analyze and confidently present data in a manner to promote ideas and opportunities to lead improvement preferred.
- Display understanding of organizational dynamics, ability to effectively facilitate training and assessments preferred.
- Multi-lingual (Spanish / English / French) preferred.
- Ability to make decisions and solve problems with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Must promote the use of The Health Bridge (nurse case management firm) and the company's early return-to-work program, including the use of Bridge Assignments.
- Must maintain personal proficiency level by attending appropriate professional development courses.
- Ability to make sound independent judgments regularly.
- Ability to work with company and plant policies and objectives.
- Ability to refer to manager or corporate director of health and safety when clarification or interpretation of organization policy is needed.
- Up to 75% domestic travel
