The intern will support the Government Affairs and Communications department with the regular government relations and advocacy efforts of the company, including onsite tours, interaction with elected officials, engagement with trade associations, community engagement and promotion of the policy agenda of the construction industry. It will provide the intern with hands-on experience in stakeholder engagement, public policy and advocacy work at the local, county, state, and federal levels. This internship will provide an opportunity to collaborate on special projects and initiatives, provide general support for sustainability, employee culture, and social impact initiatives, master administrative skills, expand their professional network, and learn about the construction and transportation industry in the NY metro area.

Core Responsibilities
  • Administrative outreach to government offices for special events
  • Scheduling of legislative visits with local, county and state elected offices
  • Support for Community Engagement efforts, including our Community Days, Group tours, Proactive outreach materials
  • Help plan and coordinate logistics for internal and external events, including securing vendors, staffing events, materials preparation, and taking photos/videos
  • Provide logistical support for company-wide or public gatherings.
  • Participate in monthly meetings with outside lobbying representation and our federal affairs team
  • Maintain Stakeholder Matrix
  • Monitoring and tracking of state and federal legislation
  • Drafting content for internal and external communications such as internal newsletters and external event promotions, press releases, and invitations
  • Identify opportunities to grow our social network following and boost engagement
  • Identify key trends within the industry to leverage into usable short and longform content
  • Assist with website management
  • Support company messaging through social media content creation, monitor comments, and review analytics


Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/ Experience/ Work Requirements
  • Student at a college, university, or technical school.
  • Majoring in pre-law or political science
  • Reliable transportation


Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Ability to convey a positive and professional image as an Intern.
  • Ability to follow direction and complete simple tasks.
  • Ability to be tactful with average communication skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with questions or problems, seeking assistance when needed.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be computer literate.


Preferred Skills

• Experience with operating a drone
