Position Overview

Partner with Operations Managers and REgional Safety Team to establish and develop a culture of safety. Provide technical and compliance expertise to the field employees in terms of good safety habits and provide direction and skills for a safe work environment. Work closely with supervisory personnel to achieve goals and support the safety of each of the company's business units.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

• Partner with business leadership to drive proper safe behavior and strong safety culture.

• Responsible for timely reporting of all safety incidents in accordance with company standards.

• Investigate all incidents for root-cause development to ensure unsafe conditions/behavior is not repeated.

• Participate on safety committee calls and provide insight and direction on matters relating to safety incidents or preventable situations.

• Reinforce policies and procedures that support the company's goals, the operations needs and achievement of safety results. Support the company's safety standards and discipline guidelines.

• Assist with organization/maintenance of support files/records for all incidents/injuries, including: general liability, auto liability, workmen's compensation, and all other applicable claims.

• Deliver training/education in the field for compliance to all safety related matters.

• Motivate behavior change and create a proactive approach and culture to safety within assigned region and throughout all companies.

• Work with government and regulatory agencies - OSHA, MSHA, DOT, etc. during site inspections in all matters relating to safety.

• Work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization; develop strong working relationships with field employees.

• Assist Safety Manager with insurance company loss control/safety consulting services to support and improve safety processes.

• Create clear and concise reports using Microsoft based products and other company computer programs.

• Lead by example in terms of all safety standards at all times.

• Carry out all assigned tasks and projects in a timely manner.

• Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.

• Other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience

• Associate degree in related field is preferred or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

• Three or more years of increasing responsibilities in a safety department supporting a multi-site organization or equivalent or relevant job experience.

• Demonstrated success in improving safety performance.

Work Requirements

• Must be 18 years in age or older.

• Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.

• Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as per company policy.

• Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.

• Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.

• Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.

• Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.

Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, and Safety Vest.

• Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

• Working knowledge of computer use and associated computer programs.

• Knowledge of OSHA, DOT and MSHA regulations.

• Broad knowledge of workers' compensation regulations and best practices or ability to learn.

• Strong oral and written communication skills.

• Analytical ability and process improvement knowledge.

• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and regulations.

• Ability to develop and foster relationships and trust at all levels of the organization.

• Strong self motivation skills.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

• Work is office oriented, but may occasionally require walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting (50 lb. minimum) objects.

• Able to stand, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects, talk and hear.

• Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.

• The employee is frequently required to sit and use hands.

Work Environment

• Standard office environment.

• Job hazards may include exposure to dust, noise, fumes, and all weather conditions. Potential for serious injury exists if equipment is misused or safety precautions are not followed.

• Fast-paced with deadlines.

• The noise level in some areas of the work environment may be loud but typically the noise level will be moderate.
