Position Overview
We are looking for energetic and driven HR practitioners who have functional HR competency, hands on experience providing a wide range of HR services to employee groups, a passion for developing, motivating and engaging employees. You will be acting as the first point of contact for employee HR-related questions and concerns. This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring HR professional to gain additional functional knowledge.
Reporting to the Director of HR, the HR Specialist is responsible for recruiting new hires, onboarding new employees, maintaining employee records, partnering and assisting payroll, administering benefits, handling employee relations issues, ensuring compliance with employment laws, and managing administrative tasks within a company's Human Resources department all while partnering with the Company's leadership team to help build the best place to work.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Oversee hiring process for Operations, including composition of job postings/advertisements/descriptions, recruiting, screening of applications/resumes, interviewing of candidates, offer letter preparation.
- Oversee administrative responsibilities to ensure accurate record keeping. (Examples would include FMLA, ADA and various leave tracking, discipline forms, etc.)
- Assist with the maintenance of local policies and procedures, including employee handbook, and disseminating this information to employees, as needed.
- Maintain a deep understanding of company policies, federal employment law and all state employment laws the OpCo operates in, and applicable Bargaining Agreements. And guide the leadership team in applying the policies, laws, and contracts appropriately.
- Support organization change efforts and collaborate with plant leadership to ensure successful change management approaches through effective planning and analysis, communication of change initiatives through active leadership support, and employee involvement.
- Takes a leading role in partnering with Leadership on employee engagement initiatives; includes planning and executing employee events, along with assisting our communications department to ensure proper communication to all employees everything from employee events, policy changes, job openings, training opportunities, spotlights etc.
- Assists Director, Human Resources and Human Resources Manager with required training, including preparation, review and distribution.
- Coordinates all priority actions and ensures follow-up; responds promptly and efficiently to information requests from senior management, external managers or functional heads;
- Assists with administrative responsibilities and special projects, including compilation of data, data analysis and report preparation/generation, analysis and distribution of reports as requested by management.
- Be a champion of company HR initiatives and safety culture.
- Maintains professional demeanor in dealing with critical/confidential information; restricts discussion/knowledge of activity to a "need to know" basis.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related discipline preferred.
- Five to seven years' experience in human resources required. Experience with HR administration strongly preferred.
- Experience in a construction environment preferred.
- Valid state driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required.
Work Requirements
- Must be 18 years in age or older.
- Must submit to pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
- Maintains professional demeanor in dealing with critical/confidential information; restricts discussion/knowledge of activity to a "need to know" basis.
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures.
- Highly effective oral and written communication skills required.
- Ability to operate office equipment including, but not limited to: computers, copiers, ten key adding machine, printers, etc.
- Proficiency of MS Excel and Word applications required.
- Basic Process Improvement Awareness required.
- Passion and ability to interact and influence all levels of the organization - from the plant floor to the leadership team
