Pay Rate $17-18.50 an hour/Depending on Experience.

Position Overview

Safety Sensitive Position Floating Plant Laborer to assist the foreperson with maintenance of the worksite to maintain a safe and compliant work environment, perform various duties across multiple locations where demands are required.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
  • Properly follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to the Foreperson, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
  • Follow direction of Foreperson as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or jobsite.
  • May be called upon to run small power tools.
  • Lifts, carries and holds material, tools and supplies.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
  • Perform servicing and maintenance on plant equipment as needed, using ladders to access platforms, and landings.
  • Groundwork such as cleaning and changing conveyor belts, changing or cleaning conveyor screens and other labor work will be performed.
  • Complete cleanup assignments mainly with hand-held tools; work safely around moving and/or rotating equipment while using the required personal protective safety equipment.
  • Operate light mobile equipment as trained and directed.
  • Perform cleanup with water avoiding unsafe conditions of water on motors and other electrical equipment and be able to work and move hoses safely while standing on slippery surfaces.
  • Keep Manager informed of any problems affecting assigned work.
  • Be aware of environmentally sensitive areas and be alert to correct environmental problems that may develop in the assigned work area.
  • When working with co-workers, constant eye contact will be maintained when backing, communicating using hand signals or other movements.
  • Perform daily pre-and-post inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with company policies.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience
  • Minimum high school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Previous related experience and/or training preferred.


Work Requirements
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined per company policy.
  • Must be willing to travel from location to location when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes and Safety Vest.


Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Ability to read, write and do basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Ability to shovel safely and to use correct lifting techniques.
  • Ability to perform a competent workplace examination to identify hazards before starting work.


Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.
  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Able to work in all weather conditions.
  • The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hand and arms above their shoulders.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 50 pounds.

• Ability to wear hearing protection in areas of high sound levels.

Work Environment
  • Ability to climb ramps or stairs repeatedly and to climb vertical ladders occasionally.
  • Ability to work outdoors with a wide range of environmental exposure including being in the sun, rain, or cold for long periods of time.
  • Ability to wear respirator in workplace conditions containing fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.
