PRIMARY FUNCTION:
This position operates various types of rolling equipment to achieve a quality finished product in the paving process with special attention to meeting compaction requirements and aesthetics of the job.
This position will report directly to the Paving Foreman.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently by following patterns to smooth material from paver to proper depths;
- Thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving;
- Familiarity with vibrating frequencies in comparison to maximum depth;
- Must be able to follow grades;
- The operator is responsible for the efficient working condition of the equipment and is expected to perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor ;
- Follow directions of manager as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or job site;
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task;
- Properly follow all company policies and OSHA / MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment;
- Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently;
- Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; and
- Perform any other general duties as specified
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; and two years related asphalt and road construction experience ;
- Prior experience with asphalt paving & rolling equipment;
- Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check;
- Pass a pre-employment "Fit for Work" physical;
- Be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document;
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times;
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS CONTINUED:
- Report to work at the designated start time;
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required. This job is for a portable paving crew requiring extensive travel;
- Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary;
- Be able to work overtime when required;
- Maintain current driver's license that meets state requirements;
- Have a Motor Vehicle Record that meets company standards;
- Be willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold;
- Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook;
- Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required;
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and / or MSHA;
- Be at least age 18 years of age due to nature of working environment; and
- Previous related experience in construction field is preferred.
