Des Moines Asphalt and Paving, a CRH company, has been leading the asphalt industry in Central Iowa for over forty-five years. We have completed a wide variety of projects including highway and street paving, commercial paving projects, parking lot construction, custom asphalt milling, and chip sealing.
Position Overview
This is a skilled position controlling production and load out of materials produced in plants. The asphalt plant operator is responsible for the efficient working condition of plant equipment and is expected to perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor. This position will require working at heights.

- Reads work schedules and determines sequence of operations.
- Operates plant according to production schedule using appropriate materials.
- Monitor material operation to ensure quality of mix.
- Performs basic maintenance and service on plant as required.
- Ability to weld using an arc welder or cutting torch is preferred.
- Cleans control house and yard facility daily.
- Oversee truck scales and the loading of the trucks.
- Enters production information into computer systems.
- Other duties as assigned per supervisor.

Education/Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
- One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Work Requirements
- Must be 18 years in age or older
- Must pass drug screen and criminal background check
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
- Regular and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work evenings and weekend when necessary.
- Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlines in the Employee Handbook.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to cope well in stressful environments and communicate professionally.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to work well with others in a group or one on one setting.
- Willingness and ability to work in and adapt to changes in circumstances, tasks, customer needs and other conditions that may affect their daily responsibilities.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Inventory and Order processing systems; uses job specific computer system for ticketing and two-way radio for communications.

- The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment.
- The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.

- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. A variety of noise levels, adverse weather conditions, and complex job sites are to be expected daily. Proper clothing, PPE (personal protective equipment), and safety precautions should be taken to ensure your safety, and the safety of others in all conditions. While performing non-field duties of this position, the environment is typical of an office setting and the noise level is usually quiet to moderate.
