Job Summary

The Area Engineering Manager ensures all products are sold and built according to customer requirements and that they are structurally sound and of high quality.

The Area Engineering Manager is responsible for managing engineering projects and the quality control team. They support the sales and production teams on all aspects of a project including: Providing preliminary engineering to estimating team when quoting complex projects, perform structural design of precast, manage the drafting of submittal and production drawings, managing CAD Drafters and QC technicians and supporting the plant during the production phase of a project, and providing field support when needed. They shall strive for economical use of all raw materials and labor in the design of products.

Area Engineering Managers are individuals that exhibit high structural knowledge, organizational discipline, and meticulous attention to detail while managing multiple teams and projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinating and supporting all engineering and design activities for multiple facilities
  • Design, Implement and Maintain Engineering Standards
  • Prepare and provide calculations and drawings to support the greater Team
  • Provide support during the estimating process by reviewing plans and specifications and providing BOM estimates for complex structures when needed
  • Provide guidance to the drafting team to provide accurate submittal drawings for special structures on a project, and production piece drawings for the plant
  • Create and implement efficiency KPIs for CAD Drafters, Product Designers and Design Engineers
  • Establish deadlines, goals, and production standards for department
  • Manage drafting department(s) to adhere to CAD standards while improving efficiency and quality of drawings
  • Final review drawings provided by drafting team
  • Ensure OTD of Engineered Drawings and BOM's to meet customer demands
  • Provide support during the project management process for engineered product
  • Provide support during the production of product for structural and safety questions and concerns that arise
  • Provide technical training to plant employees about products, safety, and processes
  • Explore New Technologies including AI to supplement Engineering processes
  • Conduct annual QA Audit at another plant
  • Support CAPEX activity

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
  • Professional Engineering Certification in Texas and California
  • Willingness to get PE in additional states as needed
  • Working knowledge of how to read and interpret schematics and engineering drawings
  • Metal Fabrication or Structural Steel Design Experience Preferred
  • Reinforced Concrete Design Experience a Plus
  • Perform Structural Analysis and Design using Solidworks
  • Travel 40%


Preferred Requirements

  • Professional Engineering License
  • 3+ years of recent construction and/or project management experience a plus
  • Knowledge of software: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, Microsoft Office, SAP 2000 (or other FEA software), MathCAD, etc.
  • Master's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
