Summary:
The Speech Pathologist (SLP) will have the education, knowledge, and skill to provide inpatient services, focusing on functional skills to enhance development, restore function and to prevent disability from pediatric conditions, illness and injury in an acute medical setting. Evaluation, treatment, and home programming are provided for children primarily with feeding and swallowing disorders, or new onset articulation, voice, resonance, fluency, and receptive/expressive language disorders. The SLP will provide speech-language services for chronically ill patients admitted to hospital for lengthy stays. The SLP is also responsible for providing swallow function studies for both inpatients and outpatients in collaboration with the radiologist. The position shall include patient and caregiver education and consultation to other medical professionals, clinics and agencies, both within Cook Childrens Health Care System and within the community. Documentation and correspondence pertaining to these services shall follow department and system policies.

Education/Experience:
- Master's degree required in speech/language pathology, communication disorders, or related field
- At least 2 years of pediatric feeding/swallowing experience in an acute pediatric hospital is preferred
Certification/Licensure:
- Speech-language pathologist (SLP) license in Texas (or license eligible)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of employment.
- Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) in Speech/Language Pathology, or eligible for application upon completion of Clinical Fellowship Year. *Must be obtained within 12 months of hire to maintain employment at Cook.
