Computershare has an exciting opportunity for a passionate Leader to join our team as Head of Development for our Global Development team, based in Edinburgh.
We are looking for an experienced individual to take on this role, leading the engineering of the critical platforms for our global business and the adoption of modern engineering methods and ways of working.

A role you will love
As our Head of Development, you will be at the forefront of our technology division, leading the development of platforms that enable a range of critical capabilities across multiple domains. This will include areas such as, middleware, APIs, data, business intelligence, reporting, operational datastores, and identity.
One of the most important parts of your role is being responsible for the leadership of our amazing team. You will focus on ensuring that there is a clearly defined progression plan for ambitious and high potential individuals within the team, and that the team is challenged, motivated, and harmonized. You will provide the team with clear direction and vision, leading on critical strategic initiatives and plans to continually improve the way of working and environment.
As Head of Engineering, you have to be a hands-on technical engineering leader with a passion for building high-quality, well-engineered platforms that are highly performant, scalable, and resilient.
Other key responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor engineering teams that design, architect, develop, and maintain core platforms.
- Constantly improving the performance of the teams by implementing modern ways of working, working alongside our DevOps and modern engineering practices to continuously improve quality and velocity.
- Set the strategic direction of the technology that supports and ensures that technical solutions meet business requirements; conform to Computershare's architectural and security standards; and that teams follow Computershare's software development methodology.
- Engage in extensive internal and external stakeholder management, aligning with business priorities and delivery timelines. Ensure that the platforms meets the needs and expectations of all parties involved.
- Oversee the setup and maintenance of scalable, highly available, and disaster recovery-enabled platforms. Continually assess and improve the cost-benefit aspects of these platforms.
- Create capabilities to enable the federated consumption of platform capabilities by other engineering teams, to standards and design patterns across the organisation.
- Implement and uphold standard practices, design patterns and strategies across the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
What will you bring to the role?
We're looking for a highly experienced individual to take on this role, so coming from a background of working in similar Head of Development roles in complex environments will be key. You will need to be passionate about Technology and have advanced knowledge of platform technologies, data technologies, integrate technologies, cloud technologies, digital transformation strategies, and software development life cycles (SDLC).
You will also have to have a good level of strategic vision for this role, so experience in aligning technology strategies with broader business goals and digital transformation initiatives will be critical to success.
Some other key skills that you'll have:
- Proven experience in leading geographically dispersed software engineering teams, preferably in Platform engineering and management.
- Strong technical background in Platform architecture, database technologies, APIs, Data, cloud technologies, and digital transformation.
- Experience in leading the broad development of capabilities (e.g., design, standards, governance) and ways of working across an engineering organisation.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align various interests and requirements.
- Experience in setting up and managing scalable and resilient platforms.
- Exceptional leadership and team-management skills.
