The CTO group is responsible for planning, designing, building, and running technology services. The CTO teams span architecture, infrastructure, service operations, compliance, and technical support.

The team associated with this role sits in the Global Infrastructure Engineering function where it focuses on providing strategic direction, implementation, and 3rd level support.
A role you will love
The Cloud Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting and delivering Cloud infrastructure, specifically on Microsoft's Azure and AWS platform. Monitoring infrastructure and environments, taking steps to improve stability, reliability and performance whilst remaining cost-conscious.
In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining existing and creating new infrastructure. Utilising code templates and deploying new infrastructure and environments in accordance with Architecture, Compliance, Operational and Security requirements.
The role involves troubleshooting complicated, cross-platform issues involving Network, IaaS, PaaS, Operating System, Application, Database and other components, taking ownership through to resolution.
Other key accountabilities include:
- Documenting your knowledge of environments and individual systems as you acquire it over time, creating runbooks and ensuring critical system information is readily available to colleagues across the business.
- Seeking opportunities to apply automation to any tasks performed manually, following through to implementation.
- Keeping up-to date with security best-practice and proactively identifying, diagnosing and solving complex security issues.
- Supporting projects where cloud services are required.
What will you bring to the role?
We're looking for you to hold proficiency in deploying and supporting complex Azure/AWS infrastructure environments, with a track record of delivering solutions based on high level designs and own technical decisions. With the ability to adapt well to change.
You will be familiar with PowerShell and deployment technologies, such as ARM, Terraform, Ansible. With an advanced knowledge of Azure IaaS services, such as VMs, ASR, Azure SQL, Containers, backup, encryption and monitoring.
Exceptional problem solving and communication skills are essential to this role, particularly when explaining technical concepts and knowledge transfer with BAU support teams.
In addition, you will have:
- Ability to create comprehensive and effective design documentation and supporting artefacts.
- Awareness of cloud security best practices.
- Solid understanding of Azure policy, blueprints, update & configuration management automation.
- Working knowledge of Azure cost management and resource right-sizing.
- Able to self-identify knowledge/skill gaps and address these independently.
Preferred Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of Azure Active Directory (EntraID), AD Connect & Conditional Access.
- Strong knowledge of IT security process and procedures.
- Working knowledge of on-premises virtualization platforms and hypervisors.
