Team
The Risk team is focused on building an unified risk platform that centrally manages all sources of Risk for Coinbase, to accelerate growth at Coinbase by confidently managing the financial threats to both the business and to our users. An area of key focus for us within the risk team is to mitigate scams and protect our users from losses. This requires usage of machine Learning models, building internal tools for investigations and creation of ad-hoc rules that can be executed quickly and building experiences to educate users about the risk of scams.
Role
The individual will be responsible for working across multiple areas related to the foundation and risk management functions, focusing on both internal and external services. Key responsibilities include:
1. Risk Foundation
○ Oversee all aspects related to the risk foundation, including the development and maintenance of internal tools and developer resources.
○ Manage and improve the services we externalize to the business, ensuring they are robust and scalable.
2. Scam Mitigation, Detection, and Education
○ Lead efforts in scam prevention, with a focus on machine learning (ML) technologies to enhance detection mechanisms.
○ Work across both backend and frontend development, ensuring a seamless user experience for consumers, as well as efficient behind-the-scenes operations.
3. Team Management
○ Manage and mentor a team, driving high performance and collaboration to achieve company goals in risk management and scam mitigation.
This role demands a strong technical background in backend and frontend development, experience in ML applications, and leadership skills to guide both technical and non-technical
teams.
What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties)
- Own the product vision, metrics for Credit and Market Risk
- Manage the entire product life cycle from planning to execution
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, design and other cross-functional teams to develop product design and quarterback rapid delivery of new capabilities and features to customers
- Define and analyze metrics to guide product development
- Align teams on a shared vision and steer execution on that vision
- Communicate progress on initiatives to cross-functional partners and executive leadership
- Lead, mentor and develop skills for 3-5 product managers
What we look for in you (ie. job requirements)
- 8+ years of product management or product development experience - or significant relevant domain expertise and a passion for learning new skills
- Experience with managing product managers for 2+ years
- Exceptional interpersonal communication, relationship management and organisational skills
- Deep analytical, prioritization and problem solving abilities, and the ability to work effectively with incomplete or ambiguous information
- Experience shipping new and iterating on successful products at scale
- Demonstrated leadership, ideally evidence of the ability to guide product strategy and create alignment with senior engineers, designers, and cross-functional partners
- Demonstrated passion for cryptocurrency, financial markets, and the Coinbase mission
- An entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work independently and succeed in a fast-paced environment
- Background in traditional finance or fintech companies
Nice to haves
- Passionate about crypto and/or its intersection with traditional financial markets
- Background and domain experience working with Financing Products or Institutional customers, ideally in Prime Brokerage/Securities Lending, Derivatives, Swaps or Delta-One
