Job Summary
The Observability team's mission is to provide CN I&T teams the ability to easily gain insights into system behavior in a complex, rapidly-evolving, distributed environment, and use the insight to deliver a highly available and performant service to CN business, and other stakeholders. We are establishing and building our next-generation Observability solutions and tools on top of industry standard, open-source frameworks. We aim to unify the tools to collect, process, store, and analyze large volumes of telemetry data in real time. You will closely work with a group of accomplished software developers and architects and with open-source technology.

You will take full responsibility of assigned deliverables, align your own workload and focus on key tasks in order to deliver as per service commitment, leveraging expertise and skill set to achieve delivery goals. You will contribute to the whole solution by analyzing functional specifications to identify the best technical design (blueprint) and coding parts of the application. Depending on the assignment, the role may apply in either a Project, Enhancement or Support environment.
Main Responsibilities
Deliver

  • Write performing quality code to fulfill design and pass code review with minimal number of defects
  • Apply configuration on development environment when required
  • Participate in implementing full product in production. Supports developer in providing application versions and details for implementation plan.

Technical Expertise

  • Interact with Functional Designer to understand requirements for medium solutions. Highlight the technical impacts of the functional design on existing applications based on a detailed analysis.
  • Deliver technical design and database structure for medium to high application complexity
  • Maintain technical documentations

Architecture

  • Contribute in developing the design and coding standards that will apply to the whole practice
  • Document blueprint based on requirements & functional designs
  • Participate to the CN Enterprise Architecture

Quality Controls

  • Ensure Quality KPI are identified, measured and produced ensuring respect of development standards. Ensure right level of testing (Unit & Assembly) is consistent across all projects.

A typical day

  • Design and build an observability solutions for all I&T verticals
  • Design and develop tools for metric collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Educate and lead efforts to improve observability among all teams
  • Identify and collect the appropriate measurements, and synthesize the correct queries, to show intuitive and insightful visualizations which characterize the behavior of complex systems
  • You will design and implement monitoring and alerting strategies to enforce application SLOs
  • Engage with internal customer teams to understand their observability needs and ensure our platform meets those needs
  • Build tools and design processes that help improve observability and system resiliency
  • Analyze and identify thresholds and set up dashboards, alerts, detectors that reflect the system's capacity to provide high quality and secure customer experience

Requirements
Education/Certification/Designation

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent degree or work experience

Skills and qualifications

  • Languages and Framework: Java, Python, Javascript/Typescript, Angular, Spring Boot (Good CS fundamentals and be unafraid to jump into unfamiliar code)
  • Infrastructure as code, such as Terraform and Ansible
  • Experience with Linux internals, containers and shell scripting
  • Drawing architectural diagrams, guides and documentation to share across teams
  • Experience with source code and binary repositories using git and ADO
  • Automated continuous integration and continuous deployments pipelines using Azure DevOps
  • Be a team player that practices pair programming, do code reviews and share knowledge
  • Experience designing, coding distributed systems (asynchronous and synchronous)
  • Experience designing and developing front-end in Angular
  • Experience leading engineering project teams and working with cross functional partners to build technical solutions that achieve team and organizational goal
  • Expertise and/or interest in:
  • Metrics Frameworks: Prometheus, Cortex, Grafana
  • Logging: Elasticsearch, Logstash, Filebeat, Kibana
  • Distributed Tracing: OpenTelemetry, OpenTracing, Jaeger, Loki
  • Profiling: JVM, go pprof
  • Cloud-Native technologies: Kubernetes, Docker, Istio, Anthos
  • Cloud-native Observability tools like Google Cloud Operations and/or Azure Monitor
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Ability to analyze problems and find solutions

Experience

  • Minimum 7-10 years experience as a developer
