Job Summary
The Plumber and Pipefitter is responsible for the plumbing on new construction or renovations in accordance with federal and company regulations.
Major Responsibilities
• Perform job planning and hazard assessments prior to the start of all jobs, to ensure a safe work environment
• Communicate with other departments as required with updates and schedules on repair work
• Layout and perform all related work involved with the maintenance of plumbing fixture, heating and cooling units
• Prepare and submit required reports and detailed written work procedures, along with inspection and recording data (e.g., back flow preventers, fire prevention equipment, environmental issues, etc.)

• Read and understand detailed drawings and sketches for various types of repair work and prepare material costs
• Recommend programs for preventive maintenance and cycles of upkeep for buildings, grounds and equipment
Working Conditions
• The role requires working away from home for extended periods
• The role requires being available on call 24/7 to respond to critical incidences
• Able to physically assist with other trade employees as required
• Able to work in confined spaces and at heights
• The role is partially performed outdoors in various types of weather and environmental condition
• The incumbent must be available to work overtime when necessary
Requirements
• Must be experienced in the fabrication, installation, repairs and maintenance of structures, including underground lines: water, sewer, gas, air, etc.
• Must have valid provincial Driver's Licence
• Must have a valid plumber and pipefitter Red Seal Ticket and be prepared to produce them on demand
• Must be able to qualify for a Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) Engineering rules card and First Aid training
• Must qualify in Fall Arrest, Confined Space Entry, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), aerial platforms
• Must hold a valid Provincial Trade Ticket
• Must comply with all CN Rail rules and safety regulations
• Has strong planning, analytical, organizational, problem-solving skills
• Has the ability to work safely and effectively under pressure when performing emergency repairs
• Must be physically fit (able to lift up to 50 lb)
• Must be proficient with standard office computer technology such as Microsoft Office (Word & Excel), as well as business systems such as Systems, Applications and Products (SAP)
• Must have a good knowledge of Standard Plans and Statistical Process Control (SPC's)
Training
The Plumber and Pipefitter must complete all training sessions as directed by the company. A successful completion of this training is essential for future performance of duties.
This position is a unionized position. As such, pay and benefits are governed by the applicable collective agreement.
