Job Summary

The Production Supervisor is responsible for training, auditing, scheduling, and carrying out quality control of production rails, ties, and surfacing crews.

Main Responsibilities

• Supervise assigned employees and ensure work is performed within CN standards on a daily basis
• Handle day-to-day issues, as well as hourly performance issues, including conducting investigations, recommending appropriate disciplinary actions, and responding to grievances
• Provide technical and field training to all production gang employees
• Build safety compliance and improve safety results through regular efficiency testing and safety walkabouts
• Provide positive and constructive feedback and coaching
• Lead on-boarding and training activities of new employees
• Manage budgets, workforce productivity and manpower within CN policies and Five Guiding Principles
• Operate in conjunction with appropriate collective bargaining agreements
• Assist in scheduling production rails, ties, and surfacing gangs
• Collaborate with Transportation to coordinate track time
• Enforce safe work procedures and policies

Working Conditions

The role will be partially performed in an office environment but mainly outdoors in various types of weather and environmental conditions with irregular hours, including nights, weekends and holidays. The role requires being available on-call based on territory requirements. The position requires frequent travel (70% - 90%), including overnight stays away from home, at times without advanced notice. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and manage stress. The position requires responding to unexpected and emergency situations as well as being able to lift up to 80 lbs.
The Production Supervisor will receive training on United States Operating Rules (USOR) in Homewood, IL. Training related to terminal operations will be carried out on the job and facilitated by current Production Supervisors, Track Supervisors, Senior Managers of Engineering and Assistant Regional Chiefs.

Requirements

Experience

Railroad
• Minimum 5 years of railroad experience
• Safety compliance experience
• Experience troubleshooting and problem solving
• Experience working with Systems, Applications and Products (SAP) and Track Inspection System (TIS)
• Minimum 2 years of railroad experience
• Minimum 1 year of track experience

Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

Education/Certification/Designation

• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)
• Associate Degree in Engineering or Vocational School equivalent

• Valid driver's licence
• Meets all medical fitness for duty requirements
• USOR qualified

Technical Skills/Knowledge

• Strong knowledge of Engineering Track Standards (ETS) and operation measures
• General Microsoft Computer skills (Excel, Word)
• Knowledge of track structure, construction and maintenance, and identifying track defects
