Job Summary
The Officer, Asset - Intermodal (IM) is responsible for the Intermodal traffic moving across the network and addresses the network challenges to ensure our customer commitments are met. The role requires a great deal of interaction and communication with various cross functional departments within CN. Furthermore, the role is accountable for the management and coordination of the Intermodal fleet platforms which operate 24/7 and is a central point of contact for Intermodal Operations, Ports, and Customer Service departments.

Main Responsibilities
Execution Management
• Ensure the execution of the daily terminal plan for loading and online traffic movement to connect to the appropriate trains
• Communicate the expectations and work with Edmonton Network Operations Managers and Transportation to optimize the trains across the network
• Monitor capacities on all trains on the Network to ensure maximum train length (i.e., annulments, combo of trains to reduce crew starts)
• Identify to the IM terminals and Transportation yards the capacity, connection issues and plans for loading or switching to expedite traffic
• Generate daily reports for the CN stakeholders outside of IM (e.g., Network, major yards, Rail Traffic Control Centres) for IM traffic and extra schedules if required
• Work and follow up with Transportation on exception moves
Asset Management
• Handle the fleet management of IM cars
• Update and monitor storage cars
• Monitor and report foreign cars online
• Monitor the Wing and Spine cars and direct them to the correct destination to be off lined
• Work with Terminals and Port Managers on car supply and train arrival info
• Generate Car Supply reports for the Inland Terminals
• Oversee the management CN Clips and Genset's
• Ensure the proper tracking and generation of reports (e.g., Bad Orders and Customs Holds - Offline setoffs)
Exception Management
• Handle online exceptions where traffic is set off for any reason, including working with Transportation, Mechanical and Terminals to identify and follow up with the recovery plan
• Interact with Mechanical departments across the network on bad order cars and plans for recovery
• Work directly with all Rail Traffic Control centers on unplanned setoff's, lifts or reductions
• Communicate any exceptions or recovery plans at Terminals or online to Customer Service Groups
• Monitor IM trains for Miss-Marshaled and Misrouted trains
• Work closely with customs group on any holds and transportations on release for lift plans when traffic is held at the border and then released
• Identify capacity, connection issues and plans for loading to expedite traffic on the network
• Work with dispatching groups on any trucking requirements
Working Conditions
The role is performed in a combination of office and outdoor environments in various weather and field conditions with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role requires being on call 24/7 to support operations and respond to critical incidents. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handles pressure, and stress while working on various project simultaneously. The role requires minimal travel (10%) within North America.
Requirements
Experience
Network Operations
• Between 2 to 3 years of experience in the transportation industry
o Experience in logistics management
o Experience with CN's Intermodal network
*Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset
Education/Certification/Designation
• Bachelor's Degree or College Diploma in Transportation, Logistics, Business or Engineering and Process Management
