Job Summary
The Nurse Case Manager ensures compliance with legal, regulatory and policy requirements when assessing medical fitness for duty and managing the disability management program. He or she acts as a member of a multi-professional team which includes responsibility for evaluating disability and medical fitness for duty of individuals occupying safety sensitive or safety critical railway positions, non-safety sensitive position with physical demands as well as for other CN positions. These medical disability assessments and on-going case management may be required throughout the career of a CN employee from pre-employment through retirement.

As a member of theO.I.I.Q., or CRNA, the NCM is bound by professional scope of practice, continuing competencies, and ethical standards. At all times the NCM is responsible for the collection and protection of highly confidential medical information regarding CN applicants, employees, and former employees.
Main Responsibilities
• Responsible to assess and monitor fitness to work of applicants and employees using specific indicators and criteria as approved by CN CMO and in accordance with CN Policies, practices and procedures and applicable regulations such as Canadian Railway Medical Rules Handbook
• Perform medical evaluations for pre-placement, periodical, job transfer, return to work, fitness to work, health monitoring assessment (illnesses, chemical exposures) and surveillance, precision testing such as audiometric and lantern, disability retirement, etc.
• Monitor substance use - Be considered as an expert in CN's D&A Policy and act as a resource to CN Managers
• Perform or assist with arranging pre-placement, follow-up, random post incidents testing and arrange assessments for employees being reinstated following dismissal/arbitration decision or after leave of absence
• Medically monitor CN employees with substance use disorders under RPA's and continuing employment contracts
• Manage disability cases and medical follow-ups efficiently and keep information up-to-date in SAP system
• Understand and apply policies and procedures currently in place
• Coordinate and prepare action and return to work or accommodations plans for employees with conditions covered under the Railway Medical Guidelines
• Maintain complete and accurate employee health records (paper files as well as SAP) respecting legislative requirements, security, privacy and confidentiality (e.g.: levels of security of both electronic and paper documentation, access, transfer, release, retention and disposal)
Working Conditions
The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday and may require periodic overtime. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and manage stress. The role requires respecting the legal obligations of a registered nurse, including confidentiality of medical information and area of practice.

Experience
Disability Management
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in disability management (occupational or non-occupational) or of acute nursing care
Education/Certification/Designation
• Bachelor's Degree in nursing
• Valid Nursing licence
• Member of Ordre desinfirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ) or College of Registered Nurses ofAlberta (CRNA)

• High degree of clinical skills, maintain high degree of alertness, ability to collect medical data objectively and to record and interpret it concisely and accurately
