Canadian National Railway Company (CN) is looking for a highly motivated person to fulfill a full-time (40h/week) Intern, Development position in Montreal, QC from May - Aug 2025.
Job Summary
The Intern, Development is responsible for designing, developing, and testing software applications by following best practices and architecture principles as per departmental standards. The incumbent is accountable for the deliverables and aligns the workload to focus on key tasks in order to deliver within an iterative development environment. The role may apply in either a project or enhancement environment, depending on the assignment. The Software Engineering Development team counts more than 250 members and is composed of multiple software development practices such as Front-End, Back-End, Systems, Applications and Procedures (SAP), .NET, and Robotic Process Automation (RPA), involving many programming languages and technologies. This team responds to various application development needs across I&T, ranging from Operations, Intermodal, Finance, or Corporate portfolios.
Major Responsibilities
• Review functional design
• Contribute to technical blueprint and develop technical design
• Develop quality code following current practices and standards
• Develop unit test scripts and execute unit tests
• Troubleshoot software issues
• Bug fixing during test and stabilization phases
• Deploy code into development environment
• Implement Proof of Concept (PoC) and Point of Technology (PoT) to evaluate development frameworks or project solution in order to make decisions and position the right technologies and patterns
Requirements
• Experience in one of the following software development areas: Java programming, Spring Boot framework and microservice, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5 programming, Angular framework, Web or mobile development, Advanced Business Application Programming (ABAP), SAPUI5, or Eclipse
Education
• Working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering
