Canadian National Railway Company (CN) is looking for a highly motivated person to fulfill a full-time (40h/week) Intern, Fuel (Energy) position in Montreal, QC from May - Aug 2025.

Job Summary

The Intern, Data Science Fuel Conservation is responsible for playing a key role in enhancing fuel efficiency processes across the CN Network, focusing on improving reporting accuracy and operational efficiency. The position involves analyzing fuel consumption and locomotive telemetry data, identifying trends, and supporting the implementation of strategies to optimize fuel usage across the network. To accomplish this, the role collaborates with different operations teams as well as with the Information and Technology (I&T) department.
Major Responsibilities
• Analyze train operations data and model the impact on the different factors to explain delays and excess fuel burn
• Develop, train, and deploy Artificial Intelligence (AI) models using machine learning techniques and frameworks design to support locomotive operation and maintenance
• Participate in data collection, analysis, and interpretation to aid in project development, performance evaluation, and regulatory compliance
• Collect the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) data from multiple platforms for dashboarding
• Prepare training material to support users in dashboard use and maintenance
• Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal teams
• Engage in cross-functional teamwork, sharing insights, and proposing innovative solutions to address challenges
• Adhere to safety protocols, company policies, and industry standards throughout the internship
• Stay informed about advancements in the field and recommend strategies for continuous process improvement

Requirements

• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
• Demonstrated ability to learn independently and adapt quickly to changing demands, while taking initiative to identify opportunities for improvements and drive results
• Advanced Knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL)
• Looks for opportunities for continuous improvement and takes initiative
• Strong academic foundation with a genuine interest in sustainable solutions and supply chain management
• Proficiency in analytical thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to approach challenges creatively
• Adaptability to a fast-paced environment and capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively
• Initiative and eagerness to learn both from industry professionals and independently
• Experience through internships or coursework related to the field
• Knowledge of Power BI, Business Object, Tableau

• Knowledge of Databricks and Python
• Ability to develop, train, and deploy AI models using machine learning techniques and frameworks


Education

• Working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Information and Technology Management, Business Technology Management
*Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset
