Job Summary
The Environmental Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day compliance operations of CN assets and equipment in a designated territory. The position completes all reporting, auditing and scheduled inspections determined by Regulators and provides corrective actions to both functional leads and the Environmental Officer. In addition, the role acts as the main responder to all small to medium-size incidents (e.g., wastewater, spills). The incumbent influences and partners with Frontline Supervisors (FLS) and middle management, providing auditing, action item follow-up and inspection support to internal clients. Furthermore, the role requires some oversight of capital upgrades, hazardous and non-hazardous waste management and community and regulatory agency outreach functions.

Main Responsibilities
Compliance
• Conduct yard and facility inspections
• Document possible non-compliance issues through Environment Management System (EMS)
• Provide corrective actions and solutions to address issues and advise the responsible department
• Conduct follow-up inspections to ensure adherence of corrective measures
• Prepare environmental documentation for approval, licence and permit applications for new or existing operations
• Provide information to the Environmental Officer and Regional Manager on the environmental performance of equipment or compliance concerns and issues
• Provide support to minor and moderate capital upgrade projects
• Input or update information in Enablon and Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP) and ensure data integrity
Environmental Risk Management and Footprint Reduction
• Oversee the day-to-day compliant operation of assets and equipment
• Sample discharge and monitoring operations of a Wastewater Treatment Plant and control structures
• Maintain spill response equipment within the Region, including yards and strategic locations in higher sensitive areas and CN right-of-way
• Conduct sampling programs for Oil and Water Separator (OWS), Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), septic systems, surface water management structures, in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and document utilizing SAP or Enablon data and compliance management system
• Coordinate wastewater and environmental equipment and assets monitoring, maintenance, and repair activities
• Participate in third-party lease site inspections, follow-up actions from audit or incident review, complete routine regulatory reports, and contractor performance management
Environmental Emergency Management
• Provide spill response assistance during derailments and yard incidents
• Maintain spill response equipment within the Region, including yards and strategic locations in higher sensitive areas and CN right of ways
• Assist in environmental emergency response efforts including recovery remediation and restoration development and implementation
Working Conditions
The role works in a combination of office and outdoor environment in various weather conditions with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role is required to be
on-call 24/7 to respond to emergency incidents. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress. The role requires occasional travel (30%) within Canada and the United States (U.S.).

• Between 0 to 3 years of experience in related environmental field

Education/Certification/Designation
• Bachelor's Degree of Science in Engineering or equivalent in a related technical discipline
• Valid Drivers' License
• Storm Water Operator and Environmental Licensing
