Job Summary
The Data Analyst is responsible for collaborating with various members of the Mechanical team to bring operational data to life. By analyzing alert thresholds, wayside detector readings, failure trends, and other metrics, the role improves the reliability of locomotives and rolling stock. The position contributes to the Mechanical Reliability team, which includes Car and Locomotive, Locomotive Subject Matter Expert (SME), Fleet leaders, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), Wayside Detector and Machine Vision teams, and Senior Mechanical Leaders.

Main Responsibilities
Data Management
• Design, develop, and implement Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes in order to gather data from various sources, including databases, Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), and flat files
• Load transformed data into data warehouses, data lakes, or other storage solutions to ensure accessibility and usability
• Apply data cleaning, transformation, and enrichment techniques to prepare data for analysis and reporting
• Drive the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data resources
• Validate existing data sources by performing quality and audit checks
• Collaborate with internal and external teams to identify improvement opportunities
Analysis and Reporting
• Identify trends, performance, safety, and productivity opportunities by applying data science techniques
• Develop, maintain, and analyze performance metrics and reports that support data-driven decision-making processes
• Set alert thresholds by defect and fleet
• Analyze and interpret the results from analytical tools and explain the meaning to the appropriate management levels
• Develop best practices for instrumentation and experimentation
• Communicate and present findings to teams and management at all levels
Working Conditions
The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The incumbent must be available to work night shifts and weekends when necessary. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and stress. The role requires minimal travel (10%) within Canada and the United States (U.S.).
Requirements
Experience
Data Analytics
• Minimum 3 years of experience working with data analytics tools, including Structured Query Language (SQL), Tableau, Power BI, Excel and Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP)
o Machine Learning and Computer Vision Experience
o Experience with Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Informatica Claire, Palantir Foundry, and ETL
Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset
Education/Certification/Designation
• Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
