Job Summary
The Construction Supervisor, Design and Construction (D&C) is responsible for managing construction related to D&C and Public Works project interests. This may include civil, utility, stabilization, crossings (at grade separation, bridge, track construction to support capacity improvements, stabilization, and track maintenance programs). The role is accountable for all assigned construction activities and ensures they are conducted in accordance with sound engineering practices, CN railway standards, regulatory requirements, CN safety procedures, and rules. In addition, the role ensures accurate billing for recoverable work as it relates to track construction.

Main Responsibilities
Construction Oversight
• Ensure projects are completed as per plans, specifications and they respect the schedule and budget
• Audit project sites for safety compliance
• Track material delivery and construction progress and resources engaged
• Manage schedule and budget of construction projects
• Inspect projects throughout construction and upon completion with Engineering to ensure compliance with specifications
Coordination
• Review and provide comments on construction plans and tender documents
• Provide field direction to contractors and ensure proper execution of project contract documents including change orders
• Coordinate work between various departments including Transportation, Network Planning, Production, and Engineering
• Handle work block coordination for construction
• Conduct weekly project management meetings
Budgeting
• Develop project cashflows
• Handle and track budgets for project-related work
• Validate all invoices and material charges
Working Conditions
The role is primarily performed outdoors in various types of weather and environmental conditions with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role is required to work on varying shifts to cover operations that run 24/7, including weekends, holidays, and emergency responses. The incumbent is required to walk on uneven ground, climb up steep embankments, and walk long distances. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress. The role requires regular travel (up to 50%) within the territory with potential to be away for periods of time depending on the projects being delivered.
Requirements
Experience
Railway Operation and Track Standards
• Minimum 3 years of experience in construction, civil engineering, construction management
o Experience with surveying and establishing control points
o Experience with quality assurance
o Demonstrated experience with oversight of budgets and schedules
Education/Certification/Designation
• High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
• Track Inspection Guidelines (TIG) Qualified
• Civil Engineering Degree
