Job Summary
The Business Analyst, Intermodal Domestic is responsible for identifying, eliciting, analyzing, specifying, and validating the business needs of users throughout CN, and for specific projects or initiatives. The role supports the transportation solutions to meet customer's logistics needs. The incumbent acts as a liaison between the Customer Service teams and other Intermodal Business Units. Furthermore, the role offers supports the optimization of service to move traffic and increase visibility of operating conditions while focusing on increasing revenue and saving time and costs.

Main Responsibilities
Analytics
- Plan business analysis activities for projects and initiatives
- Analyze, clarify and prioritize project requirements
- Analyze processes to identify business opportunities and understand the solution gaps in order to communicate business impacts
- Developed and produce weekly customer reports such as Transx (weekly transit time against train system plan and railway allowable hours by origin destination, Destination Dwell for each terminal) and Canadian Tire Corp (forecast against equipment supply)
- Identify systemic issues, perform analysis to provide more accurate information related to specific customers (e.g. train arrival to pad placements, bad order cars to release, trip plans, heat and reefer volumes, etc.)
- Review performance indicators for internal and external stakeholders such as preload list, required at destination (RAD) analysis, rolled reservations, transit time calculations, and core train performance statistics
- Develop and track transit times for customers by origin and destination
- Measure first mile and last mile on time performance metrics for all customers
- Cycle time reporting on Domestic Reposition Plan and CN equipment supply
- Develop appointment capacity plans for terminals across the Network by mapping them against driver capacity
Internal Liaison
- Work closely with the Intermodal Business team (Customer Service, Net Operations, Sales and Marketing) and external stakeholders (e.g. Transx) in the continuous improvement of the business analysis framework and toolkit
- Assist in all Customer Service ad-hoc report inquiries
- Act as internal support for the Customer Service Senior Manager and Director
- Act as subject matter expert (SME) in Tableau, developing dashboards, training and maintaining data for all users
- Organize and facilitate workshops and meetings amongst key stakeholders
- Back-up vacation coverage for other Analysts
Working Conditions
The position requires being available to work any of the assigned customer service shifts. These shifts are established according to the business requirements and may include day and evening shifts as well as weekend coverage, which is subject to change at any time. The role requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidences. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and manage stress.
Requirements
Experience
Intermodal Transportation
- Between 2 to 5 years of overall work experience
- Experience in business analysis and processes
- Experience in intermodal logistics
- Experience in interaction with customers, both external and internal
Education/Certification/Designation
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Information System, Computer Science or Engineering
- International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) certification
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification
