Agency Description

The Philadelphia Water Department is a municipal department of approximately 2500

employees working in all facets to provide water/wastewater treatment services to the City of Philadelphia and the surrounding counties.

The Queen Lane Water Treatment Plant (QLWTP) is seeking to hire a co-op candidate to assist in several plant and in- filed projects. A description of the programs is provided below.

Job Description

Position Summary:

The co-op will be responsible for the following:

-Jar Tests

-Backwash sampling/turbidity profile (TEP)

-Participate in Filter Inspections

-Permanganate/ Demand test (only when plant is dosing permanganate, in the warmer months). pH, Turbidimeter, alkalinity instrument standardization.

-UV 254 Testing

-Backwash sample composite (to be sent to BLS for TSS and metals)

-Conductivity (2 times/week)

-Change pH standards

-Online analyzer comparison sampling

-Hypo delivery analysis

-Enter hypo delivery data into Hypo results spreadsheet - spreadsheet comparison results from BLS

-Data collection and analysis- Air Scour Demonstration & Online Zeta Meter Trial

-Update Lab Manuals , Training Materials as necessary

Essential Functions:

-Most of the skills will come from on-the-job training. Lab and/or chemistry background is preferable.

Qualifications

Applicants are required to meet the following minimum requirements:

- Must be enrolled as a full-time student

- Valid driver’s license preferred, though a personal vehicle is not required.

Majors: Arts & Sci. - Biological Sciences, Arts & Sci. - Chemistry, Arts & Sci. - Environmental Science
