Job Description

Under limited supervision, the Data Warehouse Developer (DWD) supports information integration and delivery needs for DBHIDS as part of the enterprise data warehouse (EDW) team. The DWD works collaboratively with business stakeholders, data architects, data management professionals and other analysts. The DWD is responsible for understanding the business definitions of data, where the data is collected, how it is published, and the technologies necessary to make it a useful resource for data consumers. As part of the EDW team, the DWD will support the activities of the enterprise business intelligence (BI) team as well as individual business unit analysts, and work on cross-unit EDW, BI, and master data management (MDM) projects. The DWD shall be responsible for:
•    Developing data warehousing solutions consistent with the vision and direction of the department’s Data Governance Framework Strategic Plan.
•    Designing, testing, implementing, and monitoring data integration programs to consume data from multiple sources, archive it, create load routines, and load it into an integrated data vault-based Kalido EDW implementation.
•    Designing, testing, implementing, and monitoring data integration programs to publish data from the EDW into dimensional models, flat files, and proprietary structures to meet the needs for reporting, analytics, and external data requests.
•    Working closely with the business intelligence unit and internal customers across DBHIDS to optimize reports and analytics capability using the Qliksense business intelligence platform.
•    Working with data quality and business analysts to identify and resolve data issues through configuration of data cleansing and de-duplication software and the use of the Kalido MDM tools.
•    Assisting in data analysis for data quality issues such as duplicate records or missing values by identifying data integration errors.
•    Working with database administrators to ensure that the EDW is tuned for optimal performance.
•    Working with business analysts to develop and refine reporting and analytics requirements.
•    Maintaining data lineage through source-to-target mapping documentation and documenting rules and procedures required to transform, process, and load data into the EDW or into reporting solutions.
•    Assisting with maintenance of an enterprise metadata management capability to integrate data dictionaries with the enterprise business glossary.
•    Suggesting and implementing process changes to improve the overall data management effectiveness of the Department.
•    Leveraging the department data integration and master data management environment as the primary source for analytical reporting solutions.
•    Analyzing reporting requirements to determine if needed data already exists in the data warehouse environment or must be acquired.
•    Determining ways to reuse data structures and processes to meet other reporting needs.
•    Installing and configuring data integration and other data management software.
•    Coordinating with application and network infrastructure personnel to ensure availability of the EDW and MDM environments.
•    Establishing backup and recovery or replication plans for the EDW and MDM environments to minimize data loss and system downtime.
This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. This DWD role requires a service-oriented mentality, a high sense of ownership of the problems and requests assigned, a focus on managing and resolving issues in alignment with expectations, establishing and maintaining communication with database stakeholders to keep them updated with status of their requests, initiating and performing changes on production systems and proactively escalating any issues that cannot be resolved within the established timeframes. The DWD must be capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
