Agency Description

The First Judicial District of Pennsylvania (“FJD”) is the Philadelphia County Court System and is composed of two courts:  the Court of Common Pleas and the Municipal Court.  The mission of the FJD is to adjudicate cases and provide services to the community within our jurisdiction while ensuring fair, timely, and accessible justice to the people of Philadelphia.  The FJD is part of the Unified Judicial System reporting into the Pennsylvania Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.

Job Description

Provides routine clerical support following established procedures.  Work is generally repetitive. This is entry level clerical work performed under the supervision of a clerical or administrative supervisor.  The work is routine in nature, easily learned and once learned, can be performed without close supervision.  Employees in this class may be required to do some data entry on an as needed basis.

Essential Functions

  • Receives requests for court records from lawyers, court officials and the public.
  • Sorts and files mail and/or legal documents in a pre-established filing system.
  • Performs data entry functions to retrieve information from court computers.
  • Uses standard office equipment to record, scan, store, retrieve, duplicate, or present information.
  • Directs the public to appropriate departments based on simple inquiries.
  • Ability to work in the Case Management System initiating cases.
  • Ability to calculate credit for time served with use of a calculator.
  • Receive and respond to inquiries regarding procedures of the department.
  • Address court documents according to department protocols.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

Maintains inventory of supplies and orders supplies.

Replenishes computer printer, copier, and fax machine paper.

Answer telephone and may greet the public.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Standard office conditions.

Direct contact with diverse court clientele.

  • Skill in computer access and data entry on pre-established screens.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to deal with people in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Ability to speak and understand the English language and express job related information verbally and in writing to the general public.

Qualifications

  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  2. Experience in an office environment with at least 2 years of customer service is preferred.
  3. After meeting minimum standards, successful completion of a panel review and interview process.
  4. Successful completion of criminal background check.
  5. Ability to perform the essential functions of a position in this class.
  6. Covid-19 vaccination is recommended.

Salary Range: $30,028 - $31,990 (G03)
