Position Summary
The Imaging Supervisor is a working supervisor who oversees and coordinates the delivery of care of designated imaging modalities. The Imaging Supervisor maintains licensure in the modalities of which their oversight encompasses, for example radiography and/or nuclear medicine. Functions as advisor to clinical units and administration. Analyzes and resolves problems, interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates subject matter expertise. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Ensures staff accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives. Leads assigned department units to achieve defined goals. Ensures a high level of diagnostic image quality and customer service is always delivered. Ensures compliance for all regulatory requirements and overall safety in the assigned departments.
Key Responsibilities include:
LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISION
- Supervises employees in their daily work assignments
- Monitors and ensures equitable distribution of workload and work assignments for employees; facilitates a positive work environment
- Recruits and trains staff; maintains appropriate documentation for instruction, equipment orientation and department competencies
- Coaches and instructs staff as necessary in correct performance of department procedures, image quality, patient positioning and proper use of equipment
- Oversees workflow in the department
- Maintains patient wait times to a minimum by exercising appropriate planning and organization to achieve maximum utilization of resources
- Maintains flexibility in daily routine to handle unanticipated challenges
- Monitors schedules and maintains adequate staffing
- Assists with procedures and patient care:
- Demonstrates expertise on imaging equipment under their span of control
- Maintains equipment, troubleshoots malfunctions within scope of job
- Responds appropriately to complaints and/or issues from both internal and external customers, to include patients and other sections or departments.
- Integrates Pillars in Action for staff communication and behavior:
- Provides timely performance feedback to Imaging Manager and assists with written performance appraisals.
- Reviews and evaluates job performance on an ongoing basis, communicates job performance issues to employee and to Imaging Manager in a timely manner
- Works with the Imaging Manager to implement the disciplinary action process in a timely manner
- Maintains current licenses and certifications for all technologists
ADHERES TO POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
- Follows established radiation safety guidelines
- Adheres to established professional standards of ethics, scopes of practice, and performance standards
INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
- Demonstrates competency in department systems and related downtime procedures
- Ensures clinical data is correct and appropriate for specific procedures being requested. Verifies order in Electronic Health Record prior to starting procedure
- Demonstrates knowledge of the Incident Reporting System
- Utilizes hospital/department computer for hospital business only and logs off computers upon completion of tasks
DEVELOPMENT
- Assumes responsibility and accountability for own professional growth and practice. Attends assigned staff development activities
- Participates in cross training activities when necessary
- Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned
- Performs other duties as assigned
PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT
- Assures that the performance and documentation of required periodic quality control and radiation safety testing is complete and accurate. Reports any non-compliance to the appropriate resource
- Participates in clinical and research protocol development, maintenance, improvement, and implementation
- Ensures that appropriate documentation occurs and reporting of incidents in a timely manner regarding patients, employees, and physicians, to include reporting of patient or staff injury
- Participates in and encourages staff participation in the department's Performance Improvement activities
BUDGETARY
- Responsible for maintaining adequate level of supplies in the department. Orders supplies when necessary
- Responsible for knowledge and compliance with the budget and staffing standards
- Identifies opportunities for cost containment
- Associate degree or equivalent experience
- Two to three years' experience in Radiology
Required Certification/Licensure:
- BLS
- American Registry of Radiologic Technology certification(s) (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) or Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)
- California Radiologic Technology Certification (CRT) or California Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification (CNMT) as indicated by area of oversight
