Position Summary

Responsible for leading the division's selection, development, validation, implementation and maintenance of new and revised systems. Oversees the integration/interfacing of Transfusion Medicine information systems and data with other systems and equipment throughout the division and institution Ensures compliance of Transfusion Medicine information systems and operations with applicable regulations and standards.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Evaluate and assess division information and data management requirements
  • Evaluate, develop, test, implement and maintain new and revised information systems for the division
  • Manage computer-re1ated validation projects to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and to ensure that the operational requirements of the division are met
  • Collaborate with internal and external information systems representatives, to evaluate and test software version upgrades and overlays; ensure that the testing performed provides a high degree of confidence that the system meets operational needs and is in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for the administration, maintenance, and ongoing change control of Transfusion Medicine information systems
  • Manages and executes Transfusion Medicine information systems projects to address the needs of division regulatory/operational requirements and the needs for integration to institutional information systems
  • Ensures appropriate and effective communication for both internal and external customers related to Transfusion Medicine Information Systems
  • Establish and maintain policies, processes, and procedures related to the operation and maintenance of information systems, in compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Work with internal and external information systems personnel to prepare for planned and unplanned downtime operations for the division.
  • Ensure systems security operates in compliance with regulatory requirements and City of Hope policy.
  • Monitor all computer-related projects pertaining to the division and provide periodic status reports to appropriate personnel
  • Work with outside equipment, software and service vendors contracted to meet the needs of the division and City of Hope computer related activities.
  • Work with users to define reports, identify problems and communicate solutions to appropriate personnel.
  • Advise division management on information systems' issues affecting operations
  • Analyze user-reported problems and take appropriate corrective action
  • Manage the integration of Transfusion Medicine information systems and data to other City of Hope systems, including the hardware/software installation, testing/validation, procedure development, and user training.
  • Establish computer-related user education programs for the division oversee trainers and ensure the training/competency of personnel.
  • Keep abreast of the latest technology and trends and maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations
  • Be on-call 24/7 on a scheduled and sometimes unscheduled basis to assist users, vendors, and other City of Hope personnel when needed
  • Assist in developing, implementing and coordinating the department's quality systems programs related to information systems
  • Ensure that records are maintained in conformance to division, institutional, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides computer-related budget and expense information for the division
Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Five years experience in Blood Banking
  • At least five years using blood establishment computer system (or equivalent experience)

Required Certification/Licensure:
  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist (California); may consider Medical Technologist (ASCP) with appropriate experience.

Additional Information:
  • To protect the health of patients and staff and to comply with new State of California mandates, City of Hope staff are required to show proof of full vaccination by September 30, 2021. Compliance is a condition of employment.
