Position Summary

Provides quality patient care and family training through evaluation, treatment planning, and the application and assignment of physical therapy modalities and procedures in accordance with the regulations governing the practice of Physical Therapy and in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the City of Hope National Medical Center

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Screens patients to determine need for intervention and initiates referrals as appropriate.
  • Evaluates patients using appropriate age specific tools. Interprets data in order to plan treatment.
  • Establishes goals and treatment plans based on evaluation data, rehabilitation potential, discharge plans, and in coordination with goals and plans of patient, family and other care team members.
  • Demonstrates skill and creativity in implementing patient treatment programs which are safe, effective, and efficient.
  • Modifies treatment program according to patient needs and progress, terminates treatment appropriately, and develops appropriate discharge and post discharge plans.
  • Completes evaluations, progress notes, discharge summaries, and third party reimbursement reports per established departmental requirements.
  • Performs reassessments per established departmental protocols as necessary.
  • Collaborates with physician and other healthcare professionals to ensure ongoing integrated patient care.
  • Establishes and maintains therapeutic relationships with patient and caregivers.
  • Attends team and family conferences; interprets pertinent findings and contributes to the development of a multidisciplinary plan of care.
  • Communicates effectively with all levels of staff. Fosters the development of teamwork within the department while meeting the needs of departments being served.
  • Assigns treatments to physical therapy aides and physical therapist assistants. Assesses quality of care provided.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to maintain certification/licensure, and/or keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Acts as a preceptor to physical therapy and physical therapist assistant students.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Participation in case conferences and discharge planning activities
  • Coordination with a CCS case manager for referral to a CCS-paneled provider or CCS MTU for the patient who may continue to require occupational therapy services after hospital discharge.
Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

Minimum Education:
  • Doctor of Physical Therapy from an accredited school or Masters equivalent.
Minimum Experience:
  • Entry level position, no experience required but interest in oncology preferred.
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in practicing managed care and payor regulations.
Req. Certification/Licensure:

  • Current Physical Therapist license in the State of California or PTLA status in the state of California.
  • BLS Certification (through American Heart Association).
  • For pediatric service, CCS Panel provider or complete application within 60 days of hire or when hours attained.
