Position Summary
The Echo Tech uses high frequency sound waves (ultrasound), and other noninvasive echocardiography testing equipment to produce images of the heart. These procedures require specialized knowledge and skills in support of the provision of diagnostic and/or therapeutic services to specified patient population.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Performs Echocardiogram, carotid and peripheral vascular studies, use non-invasive procedure, to examine heart valves, chambers and blood vessels to produce images.
- Evaluates the various valves and chambers of the heart and makes appropriate measurements.
- Perform imaging and non-imaging cardiovascular evaluations which may include exercise tolerance tests, electrocardiograms, stress tests, and transesophageal echocardiography.
- Obtains patient history, explains procedure to patient, addresses patients' concerns, and follows established pre-screening.
- Determines appropriate methodology and techniques to use arrange immobilization and/or support devices for proper patient positioning: selects appropriate imaging device.
- Recognizes potentially serious conditions (e.g., pericardial effusion, intracardiac tumor, thrombi, etc) and brings it to the attention of the physician.
- Maintains echocardiography and other equipment in efficient operating order; may perform minor preventative maintenance; contacts outside service for major malfunctions.
- Maintains inventory control, storage, and routing of supplies. Other duties in department as assigned.
Minimum Education:
- High School or equivalent.
- Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training.
- Externship during Cardiovascular program.
- American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), and/or Register Cardiac Sonography (RCS) from Cardiovascular credentialing international (CCI) -- Within 6 months of hire.
- BLS Card from the American Heart Association.
- Associate degree in Cardiovascular Ultrasound.
- Education/training in cardiovascular ultrasound.
- Externship during Cardiovascular program.
