A Water Systems Mechanic I job is available with the City of Fort Worth Water Department Plant Operations Division. The successful individual will be responsible for the maintenance of water and wastewater treatment plant pumps and motors, chemical feed equipment, buildings and plant grounds, and other related equipment.
Water Systems Mechanic I job responsibilities include:
- Perform preventative maintenance, repair and installation on plant structures including piping, engines, blowers, pumps, valves and other assorted water and water treatment and pumping equipment.
- Cleaning chemical leaks and collect debris.
- Operate a variety of hand tools and power tools, welding machine, air compressor, forklift and other equipment.
- Assist in complex construction projects for large scale plant operation and follow work plans and schedules.
- Install pumps, valves, actuators motors and other wastewater equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED certification
- Valid Texas driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM and travel to five different local facilities on a rotating basis.
- Work overtime as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A minimum of one year experience in diagnosis and repair of water/wastewater treatment plant maintenance.
- Experience working in confined spaces and heights.
Work Environment:
Water and Wastewater plant environment. Depending on assignment, position typically requires touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions. Incumbent may be exposed to potentially hazardous materials, toxic materials, waste and infectious materials. hazards associated with operating motorized equipment or vehicles, confining and high work places, vibration, and dust and dirt; noise and inclement weather conditions; work with or in water.
Heavy Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert approximately 100 pounds of force occasionally, approximately 50 pounds or more of force frequently, and/or approximately 20 pounds or more of force constantly having to move objects.
