A Fleet Buyer job is available with the City of Fort Worth - Property Management Department who can work as part of a team of buyers in managing the age of the City's fleet asset through timely replacement of qualified equipment and vehicles. The Property Management Department, Fleet Division, plays a large part in providing support for all City departments serving our residents. The Fleet Division is the "glue" which keeps the City equipment and vehicles in a mechanically sound state and safe for all employees and residents. This position is essential in managing the age of the city fleet through timely replacement of qualified vehicles. The timely replacement of vehicles allows for reduced maintenance costs, lower fuel costs and improved employee morale. City fleet vehicles are essential to provide services to the citizens of Fort Worth. New vehicle acquisition improves efficiency of city services and timely response to citizen needs. This position will report to the Senior Buyer.
The Fleet Buyer job responsibilities include:
- Manages the age of the city fleet through timely replacement of qualified vehicles.
- Participates in the purchase of equipment including specs, sourcing, negotiation, and supplier selection.
- Receives, examines, and processes departmental requisitions.
- Prepares bid specifications and other necessary documents related to the purchasing of vehicles , equipment, services, and supplies.
- Maintains contact with vendors; keeps informed of new products, market conditions, and current prices; monitors and evaluates vendor performance.
- Confers with departmental Fleet Coordinators to determine purchasing needs, specifications, areas of standardization, and special problems.
- Coordinates purchasing activities with acquisition staff team and city purchasing staff to acquire all new vehicles (both replacement and additional equipment).
- Assists with disposition of fleet vehicle assets.
- Attend vehicle demos, fleet expos, and manufacturer new model presentation for business development and leads.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Business or Public Administration, Purchasing, Materials Management, Marketing, Economics, Accounting, or closely related field. No experience required.
- Candidates must have a valid Texas driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A solid foundation of organizational and time management skills are a necessity, as the position will coordinate efforts between customer departments, vendor partners, city purchasing staff and other stakeholders within the City of Fort Worth. The Fleet Buyer should have excellent customer relations and communication skills.
- Fleet industry experience, ideally in the area of asset acquisition. Strong analytical skills are essential.
- Thorough knowledge of fleet operations and fleet asset management principals. Technical knowledge of vehicle and equipment product lines.
- Experience developing bid specifications for procurement of complex and specialized vehicles and equipment. Ability to perform data analysis and including total cost of ownership ("TCO") calculations.
- Experience with equipment procurement and contract expertise. Experience with fleet management, telematics and financial computer applications.
- Relevant fleet industry certifications including Certified Automotive Fleet Specialist CAFS, Certified Automotive Fleet Manager, CAFM.
- Computer skills: Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access); FASTER Fleet Management Software; and PeopleSoft Purchasing Software.
