WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

The Special Assets Manager is primarily responsible for the composition of the special assets / troubled debt portfolio including commercial, corporate, small business and private client loans. In close coordination with the Chief Credit Officer, directs and supervises all aspects of special assets and problem loan management and demonstrates strategic and leadership capabilities relative to identifying loss, debt liquidation, collateral valuation, repossession, debt negotiation, restructure, foreclosure, litigation, exit strategies, GAAP accounting for troubled debt, impairment analysis and expense control. Develops, and enforces the department's internal policies and procedures. Prepares and oversees the budget for the department. In addition, upon request from the Chief Credit Officer, assumes Chief Credit Officer responsibilities when asked.

Risk Management Division

What you will do

  • With direct oversight from the Chief Credit Officer, direct and manage the day to day operations of special assets.
  • Ensure the collection of revenues and the processing of expenses are in compliance with the Bank's policies and regulatory procedures. Review operating procedures, accounting controls, logs and daily reports. Review internal audits and various department reports to ensure follow-up and to correct any inconsistencies. Ensure operational reports and transactions are completed on a timely basis.
  • Manage account assignments ensuring appropriate distribution of workflow. Manage resourcing to maximize efficiency and effectiveness, ensuring gearing ratios are appropriate to the circumstance.
  • Assist staff in developing personal/business goals and objectives by providing continuous performance feedback and taking corrective action measures where appropriate. Maintain and promote continuous staff development through cross training, development of technical skills, direct coaching and third party sources.
  • Maintain a proactive commitment to established bank programs, such as CustomerFirst, Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) and Affirmative Action.
  • Comply fully with all bank risk management, operational and credit policies and procedures as well as all regulatory requirements (e.g., Bank Secrecy Act, Know Your Client, Community Reinvestment Act, Fair Lending Practices, City National Code of Conduct, etc.)
  • Evaluate and examines credit requests for assigned Special Assets accounts or when otherwise required by Commercial Loan Policy, ensuring such loan approvals are responsible use of delegated loan authority, include the correct credit risk classification, appropriate loan structure, collateral analysis, pricing and adherence to Bank policies. Approve or declines credit requests within assigned authority, which includes review of other credit Special Assets or Line of Business Colleagues work as appropriate. Analyze and recommends approval/declination of credit requests which exceed assigned authority.
  • Review established credit policies and procedures and suggests and implements changes when and where appropriate. Ensure that all loans comply with established policies and procedures or have the appropriation policy exception documented, mitigated and including appropriate rationale and supporting detail.
  • Organize and lead Problem Asset Review meetings of the entire bank to ensure appropriate loan classification/risk trend. Conceive of and recommend improvements to process, tools, operating rhythms, routines, and engagement models with the First and Second Line of Defense to ensure appropriate early identification and appropriate management or oversight from Special Assets of higher risk rated Borrowers.
  • Actively participate in evaluating all criticized and classified credits and approves action plans intended to remedy troubled credit situations. Work with relationship managers to identify alternatives to resolve problem loan situations.
  • Participate in Loan Review and Compliance exit reviews and ensures that corrective actions are taken to cure exceptions and to prevent reoccurrence. Review appropriate reports for assigned regions to monitor delinquencies, accrual exceptions, and overdrafts.
  • Provide support for compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and administrative duties.
  • Responsible and accountable for appropriate quality controls related to the financial products the bank provides, the services the bank delivers, the processes employed and the incentives with which colleagues are awarded.

Must-Have

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 15 years commercial/corporate loan workout experience in a financial services environment
  • Minimum 10 years supervisory/management experience

Skills and Knowledge

  • Thorough working knowledge of analysis of corporate financial statements and commercial/corporate structure required.
  • Requires thorough knowledge of appropriate banking laws, regulations and bank policies and practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with all levels of Bank personnel and customers. Must possess strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite.

Compensation

Starting base salary: $175,745 - $326,377 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
