This is a 10-week paid learning experience from June 2nd to August 8th, offering $15.00 per hour. Interns will follow a hybrid schedule (3 days onsite, 2 days remote) and will work 40 hours per week during standard business hours.
The role of a IT Global Networking Intern:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Global Networking Intern to join our team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in IT alerting systems, assessment, and optimization. The intern will work closely with the Peer Coach and other team members to support and execute key projects aimed at enhancing our IT alerting posture and efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Shadow IT team members to understand the IT infrastructure and existing alerting tools.
- Review current documentation related to alerting policies and procedures.
- Perform an audit of the current alerting posture, including inventory of all active alerts and categorization by priority and source.
- Benchmark alerting practices against industry best practices.
- Identify gaps, including unnecessary, redundant, or missing alerts.
- Collaborate with IT stakeholders to prioritize and address findings from the assessment.
- Deactivate redundant or low-value alerts.
- Update or create alerts to fill critical gaps in monitoring and incident response.
- Configure thresholds and escalation paths for high-priority alerts.
- Test updated alerts for functionality and relevance.
- Develop detailed documentation for the optimized alerting environment, including updated alert inventory, standard operating procedures, and guidelines for ongoing alert hygiene.
- Present findings, improvements, and recommendations to leadership.
- Conduct a knowledge transfer session with IT staff to ensure sustainability of alert hygiene practices.
Requirements:
- Currently a junior or senior at an accredited university
- Pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related fields
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Strong interest in IT systems and alerting systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated leadership and time management skills
- Ability to analyze data
- Hungry to learn and eager to take initiative
