Overview

As the Senior Project Lead- Fleet Safety & DOT Compliance, you will provide overall support and guidance to the site transportation operations within the Safety, Quality, and Compliance ("SQC") function. You will report to and coordinate with the Principal Team Leader-Fleet Safety & DOT Compliance delivering short-and-long-term strategies in building a culture of safety within the organization. You will implement and monitor systems/activities to maintain regulatory compliance and provide training and professional development for driver managers, CMV drivers, Navigators, and field SQC leaders.

You will monitor the crash management process, conduct audits of the transportation safety management programs, and deliver metrics and indices reflecting performance. In this role, you will also have the opportunity to provide standards, processes, and training that meet the needs of the organization and your colleagues - which in turn will help drive continued innovation at an operation like no other in the foodservice industry.

Responsibilities

To be successful in this role, you will support Corporate Fleet Safety & Compliance programs, drive a safe work culture, evaluate, and mitigate fleet safety risks, provide Fleet Safety and DOT Compliance training, analyze data to inform safe decision-making, and much more to ensure Chick-fil-A Supply® facilities comply with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Regulatory compliance includes but is not limited to FDA, USDA, OSHA, and DOT.
In addition, a successful Senior Project Lead - Fleet Safety & DOT Compliance will support multiple facilities to:
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations regarding transportation
  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs and policies for Fleet Safety & DOT Compliance.
  • Lead and develop safety and compliance training that supports adherence to all safety and compliance programs and monitor for training effectiveness.
  • Monitor the Hours-of-Service program and processes to ensure regulatory compliance with regulation.
  • Monitor the field completion of the DOT Controlled Substance and Alcohol program for compliance with regulations.
  • Work with vehicle maintenance to ensure systematic preventive maintenance for vehicles and make certain that periodic inspections are compliant.
  • Monitor the Fleet Incident Management process including reporting, investigation, preventable determinations, documentation, and management of incidents.
  • Lead the establishment of the Transportation Safety Committee Meeting and monitor for effectiveness.
  • Provide a comprehensive and accurate monthly report containing appropriate safety metrics.
  • Provide Site Leaders and SQC Leaders with the following training and provide continued guidance: Fleet Safety, DOT Compliance, Accident Investigation, and Root Cause Analysis. Conduct DOT compliance and Safety management program assessments and ensure a site self-inspection protocol for all assigned locations.
  • Monitor and report CSA Basic Scores to address trends and drive performance (review roadside inspections/DOT Recordable Crashes, Crash Preventability etc.).
  • Coach driver managers and vehicle maintenance managers on roadside inspection trends and processes.
  • Provide expertise in the areas of Fleet Safety, DOT Compliance, capital projects, and general safety related issues.
  • Work cross-functionally (e.g., Operations, HR, Legal, IT) to ensure corporate policies effectively drive compliance with all laws, regulations, company policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other departments to promote a culture of safety throughout the organization.
  • Participate in industry associations and safety events i.e., safety council, To stay updated on industry best practices and regulatory changes.
  • Support company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity.
  • Ensure Fleet Safety & Compliance strategy execution as set forth by Chick-fil-A Supply®.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • 4+ years Safety Management and DOT Compliance or Transportation Management experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal and state safety laws, particularly DOT, FMCSR, and OSHA standards.
  • Working knowledge of Analytical Tools and other logistics software including ELP systems.
  • Working knowledge of the performance management/monitoring systems.
  • Analysis and identification of risk trends, problems, and solutions.
  • Ability to interact cooperatively, collaboratively, and cross-functionally with others as a team.
  • Understand and apply meaningful operations and safety performance metrics.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-starter able to work independently or in a group, adapt to shifting priorities, and who enjoys
    creating and implementing new initiatives
  • Ability to communicate well with team members and leaders to meet goals and deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task and drive execution across multiple priorities
  • Experience driving clarity in ambiguous situations/ environments
  • Excellent organizational skills and close attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications including Microsoft Project (or Smartsheet or equivalent)


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Transportation, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • In-depth understanding of DOT regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience working with ELP (camera) and DOT compliance vendors.
  • Skilled in Organizational Design and Management.
  • Have at least 5 years in food distribution operations.
  • Certified Director of Safety (CDS) or related safety designation preferred.
